Is there an example of a female head of government being chosen by direct vote?
I know, presidents are elected by the electoral college. Nevertheless, it is considered direct as opposed to being selected by a parliament. Even Lady Thatcher represented a local constituency before her party selected her as PM. Golda Maier? Parliament.
