If It’s Good for the American People, Democrats Are Against It
North Star Writers Group ^ | November 12, 2007 | Herman Cain

I know I am not the only person who sees the blatant strategy of the Democratic leaders in Congress, which is to continue to ignore the best interests of the American people for the sake of political power. They refuse to acknowledge anything that goes right, or pass any legislation that might suggest that President Bush is doing something right.

The “surge strategy” in Iraq is working according to numerous reports, including some of the most noticeably liberal media establishments. But the Democrats only want to focus on the casualties, the mishandling of the war and the costs of the war, while continuing to declare that the surge is not working. They also refuse to publicly acknowledge that the war in Iraq is a major strategic effort in our war against Islamic fascism.

Its kills them to admit Bush was right. That they will never do.

That a political party made up of my fellow countrymen, can be so deeply and irrevocably invested in a policy that only succeeds if we lose is breathtaking to me. And more than a little sad.

I don't know what they have to say,
it makes no difference anyway,
whatever it is, I'm against it!,
no matter what it is or who commenced it,
I'm against it.

Your proposition may be good,
but let's have one thing understood,
whatever it is, I'm against it!,
and even when you've changed it or condensed it,
I'm against it.

I’m opposed to it.
On general principles I’m opposed to it.

For months before my son was born,
I used to yell from night to morn -
“Whatever it is, I’m against it!”
And I’ve kept yelling since I first commenced it,
“I’m against it!”

Whatever It Is, I’m Against It

By Harry Ruby (music) and Bert Kalmar (lyrics)

Performed by Groucho Marx in “Horse Feathers” (1932)

I don’t know what they have to say,
It makes no difference anyway —
Whatever it is, I’m against it!
No matter what it is or who commenced it,
I’m against it.

Your proposition may be good
But let’s have one thing understood —
Whatever it is, I’m against it!
And even when you’ve changed it or condensed it,
I’m against it.

I’m opposed to it —
On general principles I’m opposed to it!

Chorus: He’s opposed to it!
In fact, in word, in deed,
He’s opposed to it!

For months before my son was born,
I used to yell from night till morn,
Whatever it is, I’m against it!
And I’ve kept yelling since I commenced it,
I’m against it!

It would be a good experiment to ask a liberal if there is anything good about the country right now. I suppose they would say that Bush’s term is almost over and that’s about all you’d get out of them.

Just to refine your point just a little bit... it isn't all that is "good" that they oppose. Once you make that claim, then the subjective definition of "good" comes into play. Liberals would cry that gay marriage, urban planning, etc are all "good for us".

What they oppose, and cannot even raise a modest argument against this simple truth, is anything that makes American stronger or advances freedom for ALL individuals equally. One cannot claim that special rights for special interest groups makes the nation stronger (at least, not with a straight face and a rational mind).

They oppose anything to do with the creation, development, or increase in energy, industry, military strength, across-the-board economic development, etc. They have not promoted a single idea that increases liberty for all Americans in at least a generation.

Challenge your favorite Lefty to name ONE Dem proposal that has increased freedom for all, and not just a particular group, in the past 50 years. Ask them to name a single instance where the Left has advocated for a military weapon system, an energy-producing power plant, to retain an existing military base or asset, or for business regulation that makes it easier for American commercial interests to comply... have them try to name just ONE, from any of those actually legitimate government concerns, from the past 30 years. Then watch them look around for ANY other point to make, since they cannot produce a lone example. Then ask them again how their side actually wants a stronger nation for all of our children.

(Then go find a ball of string to bat around... it'll be more challenging.)

Whoa...you guys are scarin' me there...

"Bush's war" was always a tempting formulation because it absolved the user from responsibility and implied that the war would go away when Bush did. Neither is the case and now the Dems using it have painted themselves into a political corner with it. Their real problem is that party leaders such as Dean, Reid, and Pelosi have adopted it and dragged the entire party that direction. Didn't have to be that way but now they're stuck with it.

She Who Must Not Be Named isn't, the function of careful triangulation and astute avoidance of commitment. For all her malevolence she and her handlers are political professionals and have avoided that trap. It's actually pretty clever - her own party ends up making her look like a moderate and pays no penalty at the ballot box. In theory. We'll see what happens in practice.

Democrats Becoming Desperate in Efforts to End Iraq War [semi-satire]

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) announce that she is “giving the president one last chance to agree to a plan to withdraw US troops from Iraq. Her Iraq War funding bill would appropriate $50 billion for the troops, but only on condition that the President accede to Democrats’
demands that he start pulling them out immediately and complete the withdrawal by the end of 2008.

“This may be our last chance to decide the outcome of this war,” Pelosi said. “The situation in Iraq is very unstable and there are signs that the tide may have turned permanently against us. If we don’t get the troops out
soon there’s no telling what might happen.”

Pelosi said her Party’s push to end the war is aimed at “keeping our commitment to the American people. We promised voters that a Democratic Congress would end this war. Bush’s claim that we—the United States, I
suppose he means—could still ‘win’ this war is pure speculation. It isn’t part of our agenda. Winning cannot be guaranteed. Getting out can be guaranteed. Why take a chance when we can bet on a sure thing?”

Pelosi’s remarks were echoed by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.). “As I’ve said before, the war is lost,” Reid said. “Let’s acknowledge this fact and get our troops out before we do too much damage.”

Both Pelosi and Reid rejected the option of simply de-funding the war. “We’re not going solo on this,” Reid said. “It would be too risky. If things got worse, the right wing media would try to blame us. No, this war is President Bush’s fault. His blame for that must not be obscured by partisan politics. He must join with the Democratic Party in a bi-partisan plan to end this
conflict. That’s the only acceptable way out of this mess.”

In related news, Representative David Obey (D-Wis.) gave his own unique take on the war, saying that reports alleging a favorable trend in Iraq are misleading. “The only reason why the violence in Iraq may have been
declining over the course of the year is because practically everyone in the country has already been killed,” Obey declared. “Between al-Qaeda, the
militias, the Iranians and our own troops, I don’t see how anyone could survive in that kind of crossfire.”
