May 5, 2003-Governor Mike Huckabee addressed the Arkansas General Assembly, pleading with them to pass a tax, any tax. He ticked off a list of various taxes that he would find acceptable, a tax on tobacco, a surcharge on the income tax, a sales tax... "I will very happily sign that," he proclaimed.
Jump forward to the present day, Mike Huckabee running for the Republican presidential nomination has signed a no-tax pledge and jumped on the Fair Tax bandwagon

This is how we Arkansans know the Huckster.
Thought y’all might find this link interesting. Click on the link to see the YouTube video. Typical Huckabee.
Now I understand why the people of Arkansas so vehemently oppose the Huckster . This is quite damning to say the least ...
Thanks for posting the truth .
BTTT
It’s frustrating for Arkansans to see conservatives in other states latch onto Huckabee since we saw his true colors for 10 years while he was governor. He gives a great speech but his record doesn’t back up his rhetoric. Thanks for checking out the link. Apparently it just showed up on Drudge so many others will see it too.
These guys always pick on tobacco. That’s the biggest discrimination tax there is. If they want to add or increase a tax, share the problem with everyone. The tobacco tax is like just taxing one minority group. We all know where that would end up.
Ouch.
The wheels are coming off the Huckabee smoke and mirrors campaign...

This won't play well in Iowa. Not at all. Couple this with his soft-headed support for taxpayer funded higher education for the children of illegal aliens and his incipient surge in the polls could be entirely snuffed out if this clip gets widespread distribution.
This may have been hurtful to a contender, but it’s hard to torpedo a candidate who’s never left drydock.
Now, it should be clear to everyone, Huckabee is a liar, a fake and a fraud, why, he’s just another huckleberry from hope trying to create and then ride a wave of populism!
This video clip just got put on the Drudge Report.
So, is he lying now when he says he won’t raise taxes or was he lying then when he said he’d raise any and all taxes?
Hmmm. I think the governor needs an accountability partner.
Well he did raise our taxes multiple times so I guess he’s lying now.
Nail on the head.
Actually, the biggest discrimination tax is the success tax — also known as the progressive income tax.
As you smoke more, your additional tax remains a fixed percentage relative to the cost of your smoking. As you earn more, your additional tax becomes a higher percentage of what you earned.
Higher taxes on smokers have the putative nanny state goal that it is for the smoker’s own good, to discourage unhealthy behaviour. Higher taxes on higher income have no such goal of helping the people taxed, it is simply acknowledged as a punishment for being “too” successful.
When it comes to taxes, the hgih earners are the most discriminated against in America.
Because of the slow-down in the economy back in 2003, Huckabee was calling for tax increases as the solution to raise more revenue.
Thanks. That guy was third on my potential candidate list behind Thompson and Hunter. He is now completely off my list. I don’t care about the context or reason. The words speak volumes.
Ah, thanks. I recall a lot of problems in Arkansas at that time (I’m from Southeast MO)...seems like there were some school-related problems as well, mandatory spending decreed by judges that caused a shortfall as well. Tough job to be governor of Arkansas, wouldn’t do it myself.
He’ll wear it as a badge of honor. Like Huckabee calling the “Club for Growth” the “Club for Greed” (after it detailed him at http://www.clubforgrowth.org/2006/05/mike_huckabee_is_a_liberal_a_c.php), it is yet more red meat thrown to the Religious LEFT, European-style Christian Democrats/Socialists (for those familiar with only politicos on our side of the pond, those in the mold of Jimmy Carter, Hubert Humphrey, and Canada’s Tommy Douglas). Huckabee is too “nice” and I think his heart rules over his head.
See also: Cato institute graded him with an F (http://www.cato.org/pubs/pas/pa581/reportcard_table.html).
Arkansas had some problems. Huckabee’s leadership, or lack their of, didn’t help either. There’s a reason why Arkansas stayed blue when the rest of the South turned red.
You might want to Ping the FRed Heads. The voters in Iowa and NH might find this video helpful in deciding between Huckabee and Fred.
this is in red on Drudge, has been up for a while
I posted it first. Thanks though.
dano is not here to defend his candidate, so let me help him with his next post...
But Rebekah, that is a lie. His website says so.

LOL :)
not what I meant, but you’re welcome.
Apparently Arkansas Journal broke the story this morning and Drudge posted the link a few minutes after I started this thread. About 10,000 people have viewed it on Drudge so that’s good.
“a surcharge on the income tax”
Isn’t that just a tax on a tax? Isn’t a ‘surcharge on the income tax’ just a tax on the income tax? What does he mean by this?
True, true.
BUMP
BTTT
LOL!!!!!
I’ll take a candidate’s history over what his website says any day. Huckabee is a horrible nanny stater with 2 conservative positions. How sad.
B T T T
Thanks for the bump.
He sounds worse then the liberal democrats
He is because he cloaks himself in Christianity and conservatism in order to easily mislead good people.
Drudge recently pulled the link so here’s to hoping the night FReepers get to see this video...
