EDINBURG The University of Texas-Pan American is going green for its seventh-annual International Week event.
The university, and several others throughout the country, is slated to run a series of events this week to promote awareness of other cultures.
International Education Week, which begins Monday and ends Friday, is a joint initiative between the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education to prepare students for work in a global environment.
This years UTPA theme is Earth Matters. Its activities include art exhibits, speeches and panels to address environmental changes, global politics, economics, health and other issues.
Marilu Salazar, director of the universitys office of international programs, which heads up the event, said members of the programs advisory committee decided to focus on the environment this year because of all the attention within media, political and pop culture circles.
Its really a hot topic, she said. We thought this was the best time to put it out there.
The weeklong festivities also include a speech from Robert F. Kennedy Jr., an environmentalist, attorney, author and son of slain U.S. Sen. Robert F. Kennedy. He is also a nephew of slain President John F. Kennedy.
Kennedy is slated to discuss Our Environmental Destiny on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at the universitys fine arts auditorium. Admission is free and open to the public.
His scheduled appearance is the latest in the universitys Distinguished Speaker series. Last month, former Soviet Union leader Mikhail Gorbachev spoke at the university.

I have nothing intelligent to offer this forum except to say “What an f’in idiot!”
God help our country!
Militant
To paraphrase what they say about Rush; That’s just the Heroin talking.
I have a leaked texted portion of the speach,
” Ahhh, errr, uhhhh, i love windmills, anywhere except in my back yard that ruins my view and my yachting.
Now, uhh, do as i say not as i do.”
The Democrats years ago began the tradition of pandering to many diverse fringe groups in order to achieve a majority. The majority is made up of many small minorities.
The weirdo feminist; Late term abortions
The Wacko environmentalist; turn off all nuclear power, shut down coal, ban cars, no drilling in Alaska.....
The very young who want to connect to a President that can be funny, play music and say he’s “metro-sexual” as Kerry really did!
The entitlement thinker old; someone who simply is looking for government entitlements in retirement and medical.
The entitlement thinker young; the kid that thinks society would be better off if his college were free, if daycare were more subsided, etc.
The African American who still reminisces of some “power to the people” speech he heard in the 60s, walking around with a huge fro and African attire, celebrating Quansa.
The Hispanic; illegal allies, need one say more?
The homo; make them equal to M/F and allow them to publicly display their affection in places where M/F would also get in trouble.
......
Clinton came to power by telling every fringe group what they wanted to hear. From the American Black (After all he was the first black President), to the socialist with his Hillary Care, or the homo who was happy because the DoD was pressured to loosen the reign on regulations governing this behavior, he was nothing more than an elaborate woven together patchwork of fringe issues, which most people somehow or somewhere belong too. He plays the saxophone on a popular nightly show and suddenly everyone under 25 understands him. Promise the AARP and old people lots of Social Security and free medical care.......
The Democrats have become the party that panders to the far fringe issues in society, while it’s actually the Republicans who are more the center mass party. Most Americans want our government to clamp down on illegals, yet the Democrats steer a course that goes against what nearly 77% of the population wants. This seems contradictory, but it isn’t. In the end, even though some senior citizen is upset because of the illegal issue, he’ll vote for the party that promises him more in hand me outs because the hand me out trumps the illegal issue.
The Democrats are a party which achieves power by often going against what main stream America wants. Example: late term abortions. Does this give them the support of the radical feminist? Sure, but does it really alienate them from a black voter? No.
Even Hillary in this election is playing the feminist, environmental, young, old, gay, black and many other cards. We’ll see if it works as it did for her husband.
Ping!

Hmmm....I would think that going green would be more than a 1 week event at the campus. Would involve not paying speakers to travel in jets half way across the US and buying carbon credits with the money saved. All events in the daytime with that awful coal burning electricity mainly shut off and lots of candles burning (via NBC, nothing but crap network).
Lots of beef (methane producing disasters) consumed (raw, cooking causes CO2)after planting lots of flowers and trees (carbon dioxide sequesters). Serious ridicule of vegans for killing and eating these carbon dioxide sequestors. And finally, only use one sheet of “recycled TP” per person per incident.
How are we supposed to take greenies seriously if they don’t take their messages seriously?
