Syrian-Turkish Partnership Council established

Mersin, Turkey, (SANA)-Syria and Turkey on Tuesday signed an agreement to establish a Syrian-Turkish Partnership Council stemming from the Free Trade agreement came into effect on the first of January, 2007.
Minister of Economy and Trade Amer Hosni Lutfi who signed the agreement for Syria said trade exchange between the two countries will exceed 1 billion USD, which requires both sides to intensify efforts to reach 2 billions USD between 2008 and 2009.
He referred to the need for developing transport sector between Syria and Turkey due to its importance in facilitating and raising mutual trade quality which "achieved a remarkable progress last year."
Turkish State Minister for Trade Kursad Tuzmen who signed the agreement for Turkey called for founding an economic unified environment between the two states, saying "trade volume between Syria and Turkey is balanced well and it will soon reach 150 millions USD monthly."
He expressed desire to raise trade to be at 5 billions USD annually.
For his part, Chairman of the Syrian-Turkish Businessmen Council Baha'a al-Din al-Hasan underlined that initial statistics refer that trade exchange between Syria and Turkey will reach to 1.200 billion USD annually.
He called for concentrating on the sectors of land, air and maritime transport and facilitating measures of transit between the two states.
