An accused stalker was shot to death Monday night by the object of his obsession after he broke into her Hessville home, police told the Northwest Indiana Times.
Hammond resident Ryan Lee Bergner, 41, was pronounced dead from gunshot wounds to his abdomen shortly after 10:30 p.m. at a local hospital.
According to the Times, Bergner went on a date with the 51-year-old woman last June, and his behavior became obsessive, offensive and violent.
On Monday night, the woman was watching television in her living room when she said she heard Bergner break a bathroom window near her back door and called 911.

If i'm wrong and doesn't need excerpt someone gohead post the hole article. I don't create posts that often.
I ask because nbc5.com got the article from nwi.com. Which is NorthWest Indiana 'The Times'. Which is why Times is referred to in the article.

The 911 operator told her to lock herself in the bedroom until the police arrived. He broke into the bedroom and tried to choke her. If she didn’t have the gun, she’d be dead.

“Bergner had not been charged in any of the half-dozen previous complaints made against him.”

As I've seen others say, "I love a happy ending."
Dave,
Might this be worthy of an "Armed Citizen Ping"?

“We only went out on that one date,” the woman told the Times on Tuesday. “I got a look at his temper, and realized I didn’t want anything to do with him. But he wouldn’t take no for an answer.”
***But she had the right answer after that. Notice that the article leads off with “accused” stalker rather than “alleged” stalker. Probably their way of shedding the usual bias.

Sad local stories involving women in the Chicago/Northern Indiana area lately. You all know Stacy Peterson and Lisa Stebic are missing. Then the bodies of Nailah Franklin and Alma Mendez were found in Forest Preserves. (all cases unsolved)
Now the 2nd body of a woman was found behind a side school. (The first last week) 2nd woman found dead was strangled, officials say
Glad I found a story with a happy ending. I had post this one.

A friend had given the woman a pistol for protection earlier in the day. Perfect timing!

Good! One less creep to deal with.
I wonder how many other women have been his victims and may be dead at his hand.
The lady did the community a service and should get a medal for it.

After being shot three times the dirtbag still tried to strangle his victim and died in the attempt.
It’s mighty warm where he is now.
Bravissima, good lady!

Seem to think “Ryan” was a “good man” and that there was more than one date. Yeah, right. Good men are always breaking in to try and strangle women. Acted as if more than one date justified something. In my mind the story ended much better than it would have if she didn’t have the gun.

Smith & Wesson used to include this little ditty with its handguns: Have no fear of any man, no matter what his size; if danger threatens, call on me, and I will equalize.
Schools should require kids to memorize it in civics class.

"We only went out on that one date," the woman told the Times on Tuesday. "I got a look at his temper, and realized I didn't want anything to do with him. But he wouldn't take no for an answer." I guess she just had to tell him a bit more forcefully. Good on her. The Lady's Special is a lady's best friend.
