Democrats' 'F' Troop
IBD ^ | November 14, 2007

Iraq: Al-Qaida has lost in Baghdad and Anbar. Casualties are down. The surge has worked. So why are the Democrats, having gone 0 for 40 trying to stop the Iraq War, still trying to lose it?

The way things are going in Iraq, the war just might be won before the Democrats can get around to forcing a surrender or cutting off funding.

After promising voters to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, they have forced 40 votes, according to politico.com, on bills restricting deployments to or forcing a pullout from Iraq. They lost on all 40.

Their latest attempt, ignoring the good news from Iraq, was to attach a pullout mandate for as soon as December 2008 to a funding request for 2008 for Iraq. Rep. John Murtha of Pennsylvania says they are merely doing the public's bidding and that "the public wants the war over with."

What the public wants, we submit, is not to lose this war or any other. The general dissatisfaction with the war in Iraq was not due to the fact that we were waging it, but that we didn't appear to be making much progress. Gen. Petraeus' surge has changed all that.

Under its protective umbrella Sunnis and Shiites have united in support of coalition forces and against Al-Qaida in Iraq. AQI's nihilistic violence, coupled with an American surge where U.S. and Iraqi troops came and this time stayed, have turned the tide in our favor.

The Democrats always miss the opportunity to mount the Victory Horse to the Victory Parade. Hmmmm

If Harry Reid and his cabal had been representing the United States on the battleship USS Missouri, on September 2, 1945, we probably would have surrendered to Japan.

One irony of the war in Iraq is that perhaps it needed to come to near failure in order to succeed. The before the surge carnage made it clear what their choices were and who was the cause of it. Their lust for blood was tempered by the shear horror it unleashed. So maybe they are ready for peace now where they otherwise wouldn't have been.

The bottom line...

From the IBD article:

That the Democrats ignore the good news from Iraq in their lust for defeat shows that their opposition is ideological and not based on empirical evidence of failure. Clearly the tide of war has turned in our favor. But MoveOn.org doesn't care, so neither do they.

The political tide may be turning as well. "Republicans (including the president) have made real progress in swaying opinion to their side, while 10 months of Democratic efforts have failed to persuade citizens that the war continues to be a disaster," says Charles Franklin, a University of Wisconsin political scientist who analyzes public opinion.

Democrats thought they had a mandate. But Republicans held firm, as did Bush and Petraeus. On Iraq votes, the Dems are 0 for 40. If they continue their mindless opposition, they might be 0 for '08 as well.

IBD editorials are great. Does anyone know what the rest of it compares to the WSJs on a regular basis? WSJ editorial is to the right but a lot of the articles steer left—although I will admit at least they at least try to make it about economics more than straight up being left (eg: being green to save on electric bill/gas and not send money to the Middle East vs the world is going die from global warming).

Harry Reid would have probably been fighting for the Japanese because he would have felt that using the A bomb was wrong.

Didn’t he say that we were losing the war about the time of Iwo Jima?

He’s so old that he probably said the same thing about the Ardennes/Belleau Woods breakout in WW1.

WSJ has alway had that split personality. The editorial page is conservative, but the newsroom is staffed by the usual assortment of leftist journalism school grads who consider it their duty to report the news as they see it.

What, if any, changes may result from the ownership switch is hard to guess.

We’ll just have to wait and see.

For Heavens sake people. Can we not finally say what has become increasingly obvious for the last twenty years. The Democratic party is no longer the Democratic party. The party is now the Communist party USA. They are determined to bring down the government of the United States and destroy our national sovereignty at any cost. This must be done before their final objective can be realized. They want world Communism and no sacrifice, no amount of loss of human life will dissuade them from their fanatical quest for domination. They are control freaks one and all and their bizarre notion of social morality must not be challenged. Ever! Even if it means taking man kind back to the dark ages.
