A definite rebuttal of the whining seen around the blog-o-sphere and even here on FR about Fred’s “lack of substance”. Bookmarking this for the next time a newly-registered individual decides to trot out the “Fred hasn’t told me what he’s about yet” line.

Its obvious why conservatives see something to like in Thompson. He has offered clear, conservative ideas on fixing Social Security, policing immigration, and expanding the military. We encourage the other candidates to follow his lead.Nice.

build a million-member ground force that would increase the sizes of the Army and Marine Corps to 775,000 and 225,000, respectively. What is the sound of a million men marching?

I agree that Fred has lately been sounding like the man we ought to have in the White House. It remains to be seen if that will help him win primaries and delegate support.

Fred is the quiet, substantive candidate. I think he will be very attractive to the voters, if not to the people who bloviate about politics for a living.

I hope his stand on illegal aliens is tronger than this article says.
Police participation and employer crackdowns are only a starting point. Without active deportation, the population of illegals will never shrink fast enough. The underground economy will just grow.

I’m glad to see this in National Review. Their gurus all seem to have signed up with bizarre candidates up to this point. Maybe they are coming around. The NRL endorsement may have woken a few of these people up.

bump for the real Conservative vs all the other pretenders
it’s hard to believe real Conservatives would actually split their votes with Rooty and Romney(recent convert to Conservatism for political gain) before working together for Thompson...... at least in the primaries
Fred Thompson like Eisenhower is calm, collected and responsible with his thoughts and his ideas,, he is at least as Conservative as Reagan was (if not more)on fighting for the unborn, immigration, the courts and fighting the enemy
the others(execpt McCain) are just putting on a phony politician acts(many people think the phony campaign act is “fire in the belly”)
Romney is just a bit too wormy for me, he will tell you anything you want to hear and the way he snapped at McCain the other day about the political ad irony was just cheap and snippy
to me it made McCain look like a grownup taking a hit for his principles and Romney looking like the know it all immature rich kid taunting nanner nanner
McCain is now my number 2(out of the top tier),, hoping Duncan Hunter will be VP on the final ticket
To: Josh Painter
Why are they encouraging liberals to steal from Thompson’s lead on conservative solutions. Wouldn’t the proper response be to instead back the ONLY ONE making these proposals? Oh, right, NRO prefers ABT.
