First? To have a plan on immigration? McCain had a plan well before Fred. A plan to make things worse, true, but a plan nonetheless. When the McCain-Kennedy amnesty bill was being defeated in the court of public opinion last summer Fred was silent, but not so many of those who were already in the race. Hunter and Tancredo were focusing on the issue before Fred even started ruminating about running. Romney also came out with his plan, and was running TV ads on it here in Iowa, well before Fred entered the race. There’s nothing wrong about Fred, finally, coming out with a plan on immigration and talking it up. But to claim he’s first to do so is unbelievable and doesn’t benefit his candidacy.

Fred came out against the amnesty deal last summer before he was a candidate.
