“Your hilarious mate”

Don’t you mean “you’re” hilarious? My, my, my. Murdering the
King’s (or is the king wearing a dress) English. And us ill-mannered
Americans are accused of bastardizing the King’s English.
(You also ended a sentence in a prep, but I won’t hold that agin you).

Re the Falklands. Does not change the fact that the Brits “limped”.

Unparalled militarry history? In that the Colonies defeated you
‘Limeys’ in 1776 (or I think officially it was 1783), you were
obliterated at New Orleans in 1814 and have been in decline
ever since. The irony of all ironies is the country that started
this descent pulled your bacon out of the fire not once but twice
in the 20th century, the second occasion which spelled our
“Coming Out Party”.

In an outside-the-box way of thinking about and defining “Empire”,
no country has ever come close to being/having the Influence that
Uncle Sugar has today. But, then again, thinking outside-the-box is
the parallel world from which I come.

The Empire you speak of no longer exists. Except maybe in
that parallel world from which you come, which appears to
be akin to LaLa Land. Bit of Frenchthink methinks.

So stand aside, mate. Yours is clearly second or third fiddle.

MV

Let’s see.

You got spanked by the British when you invaded Canada, and got your White House burnt down. (apologies to normal FReepers, I don’t enjoy bringing this stuff up, just for MVlad here)

America didn’t “save” Britain in either World War, unless you built our Navy for us. Just checking ... nope, it turns out that the enormous Royal Navy was built by ... the British! How about that!

And as for not having an Empire anymore. Well, actually that’s true, but no-one was claiming we still had one. UkSupport1 pointed out that we didn’t get our erstwhile Empire by being defeated an apparently uncountable number of times.

And where did that Empire go? It turned into a swathe of mostly successful countries, most of whom are lined up on the side of the Anglosphere today. The ones who reject their British heritage are the most wretched hives of villainy, like Zimbabwe.

And finally, one of the most enduring relics of evil British Imperialism is this. What language are we writing these posts in?

If this is what you think about our most steadfast allies, I would hate to hear your opinion of our enemies. Did a Brit run over your dog or something?

You’re absolutely correct. I apologise, I was distracted, but am currently involved in many tasks. Arguing with an anti-British loon does not rank highly amongst these.

Thank you for not holding that ‘agin’ me?!

The US War of Independence: Fought against third-tier British forces (we were somewhat preoccupied fighting other world powers), loyalist British colonists and German mercs. Colonists were predominantly British and lost most of the battles. Would have lost the war too were it not for the French.

1814: New Orleans. A good American victory for sure. However, it is a battle noted for the bravery and coolness under fire of British redcoats who stood under withering fire from a strong US defensive position. It also came at the end of a conflict in which the US tried to invade Canada, was beaten back by numerically inferior Brit/Canadian forces. The war ended with British forces hundreds of miles inside US territory. Hardly a US victory and only a ‘draw’ if you’re being kind.

“you were

ever since.”

I believe that the British Empire reached its height in the decades after a small victory over that chap called ‘Napoleon’. Sorry mate, but the US War of Independence wasn’t big news in the UK and, as I have shown, took place BEFORE the height of British power.

The US did not pull the UK ‘out of the fire’ in the World Wars.

WW1: In the final months, UK forces captured more Germans a than all of the other Allies combined.

WW2: Russia broke the back of the German army.

[Other Freepers, please note that I am very grateful for how the US help us in these wars, however].

That the UK Empire does no longer exist is testament to the economic position that Britain found itself in after WW1 and 2 . Britain has good relations with former territories, many of whom are now in the Commonwealth. Britain defeated insurgencies where these arose and was not forced out of any of its territories because of military failure. Britains military record post-WW2 is excellent.

Please, may I ask, what you mean by ‘limped’ with regards to the Falklands. It sounds a fascinating theory, but does it contain facts?
