--Republican presidential candidate Tom Tancredo on Friday defended a new campaign ad airing in Iowa and New Hampshire that claims lax border security has allowed Islamic terrorists to "freely roam U.S. soil," saying the threat is real and he is not peddling fear.

more stories like this"It is not fear-mongering to suggest that terrorists will join in taking advantage of our porous borders," Tancredo wrote in a guest column in Friday's editions of The Denver Post.

He was responding to a Post editorial that described the ad as "over-the-top rhetoric and fear-mongering."

Tancredo, a congressman from Colorado, has made illegal immigration a centerpiece of his long-shot presidential campaign.

Tom Tancredo welcomes the attention.

His goal is not to win the nomination, but to publicize his cause.

He actually said so, I believe.

Certainly, he would be less inhibited in his tactics if that were the case.

They say that the Tancredo ads install fear, especially to young viewers. Tancredo’s ads are factual and hit the viewer smack in the face with reality. By ignoring his ads or downplaying his message, we are complicit in the destruction of our free society.

I say that global warming ads strike more fear and do more damage to our people, especially the young ones. And we know global warming ads are based on anything but reality.

What has it come to that he has to “defend” his statement that this possibility exists.

Tom is my favorite Candidate. And I think that he would really get things done, and not be the same old crap!. I know he has no chance to win. Sad.

Tancredo said a long time ago that he realized he had no real chance in the campaign but would run to keep illegal immigration at the forefront. I really admire the character of this man!
