Were the US to ban aids carriers from entry into the country on grounds of cost of care, I am certain New Zealand would be the first to loudly condemn the policy.

NZ apparently has better immigration officers than the US does.

good point though I bet they’d have to get up mighty early in the morning to beat Spitzer and the Dem Prez candidates clambering over each other to the microphone. Of course, they’d have the advantage of the international date line.

Couldn’t she just drop off a ship near the coast and bob her way to NZ?

Unbelievable. They look like really nice folks that any country would be proud to welcome. I don’t see anywhere that they are ax murderers, child molesters, or have tuberculosis or some other highly contagious disease. Excuse me while I cross NZ off my vaction destination list.

Oh for goodness sake half the All Blacks would fail the BMI test.

While I see where the sentiment is coming from, relying on the BMI test is foolish. Not that the blushing bride would pass a body fat test, but BMI is a silly thing to use as your be all end all measurement.

"The immigration department can't afford to import people who are going to be a significant drain on our health resources.

But it's OK to allow any blood thirsty radicalized mad Mo'man in ?

I wonder if they let in homo's or better yet, they should deport all the homo's since they are far bigger health risk than a fat person

I doubt it. You can visit without your health being an issue. If you are going there to work and stay, however, you have to demonstrate good health. A relative moved to NZ more than 20 years ago. Both she and her husband, who had a recruited job already, had to go to another state to have physicals from the doctor of NZ's choice. This policy is nothing new.

A British woman planning to start a new life with her husband in New Zealand has been banned from entering the country - because she is too fat.

I suppose they have a right to do this because it is a sovereignty and immigrant choice issue. Your point that "Were the US to ban aids carriers from entry into the country on grounds of cost of care, I am certain New Zealand would be the first to loudly condemn the policy" is well stated though.

I do see this as another step toward socialism and control of people. I see this coming with our "war on fat" in the context of socialized (free?!?) medicine. I can see a day in the USA where a citizen can be denied rights or privileges (driving, healthcare, food, a seat on the bus, etc) because he is "too fat", but an illegal immigrant is given full rights and privileges at the first person's expense.

What a wacky world it is becoming. Thanks to the Rats, we are all growing older in a "tolerant" world that is becoming less tolerant of older and fatter people. Euthanasia anyone?

I remember a time when you could call a radio station and request "Too Fat Polk."

Back in 1947, Arthur Godfrey had a hit record called the "Too Fat Polka". It had lyrics such as, "I don't want her, you can have her, she's too fat for me...". The record had a good hand-clapping beat, and sold 3 1/2 million copies.

You didn't have to to fear government agents arresting you for a "hate" crime. Your fat friend's reaction however . . . .

Employers can discriminate against smokers (health risk)

Employers will discrimenate against overweight (health risk)

>British woman banned ...

---------------------------------------------------------

Do you see what they are
Do you hear what they say
People it is sad but true
They're dressed really stupid
But they think they're O.K.
And they got no use for you
The dead girls of London
Why do they act that way?

Maybe it's the water, mama
Maybe it's the tea
Maybe it's the way they was raised
Maybe it's the stuff what they read in the papers
Keeps them lookin' sorta half in a daze
The dead girls of London
Why do they act that way?

We're the dead girls of London
We thinks we are fine
We ain't hittin' on nothin'
But the boutique frame of mind

You see 'em dancing at the disco every night
Like a bunch of little robot queens
Making little noises full of fake delight
But they're really just so full of beans
The dead girls of London
Why do they act that way?

We're the dead girls of London
We thinks we are fine
We ain't hittin' on nothin'
But the boutique frame of mind

Boutique frame of mind
Gee I like your pants
Boutique frame of mind
Gee I like your pants
Boutique frame of mind
Gee I like your pants

New Zealand officials assess people's weight using Body Mass Index which measures fat by comparing the height and weight of an individual.

Mr Trezise, a submarine cable specialist and former member of the army said his BMI was measured at 42 making him well over the limit of 25 which is regarded as overweight.

This is ridiculous.

I just want to the BMI index and put in my numbers.

For me to be at "25" limit I would need to weight 165 lbs which I have not weighted since I was about 14 years old.

Even when I was in my prime health and had a 32 inch waist with very little fat, I would have been slightly over weight with a BMI of 30

This needs a huge Nanny State/ Conformity alert.

Her being over weight ins’t the problem. Expecting everyone to fit under Government health care is. Next they’ll be checking people’s DNA to see if there’s a problem.

Piss on New Zealand.

“When the couple first tried to gain entry to the country they were told that they were both overweight and were a potential burden on the health care system.”

Free healthecare and a free country isn’t possible.
