How long does it take us to get to work? How happy are we in our jobs? How much beer do we drink? A statistical look at the lives of the average American nationwide
(Excerpt) Read more at time.com ...
Americans work more than we sleep. We also get--and take--less vacation than any other Western nation. But we're a remarkably satisfied lot: 9 out of 10 Americans say they are moderately or very satisfied with their job--a number that hasn't changed much in 35 years. So what jobs make us happy? To find out, follow the arrows around the border of these pages. It's a happiness index of U.S. workers, matching dozens of jobs to a giant survey of how happy people say they are. For the most part, happiness isn't about money. Priests and firefighters are the most joyful, and they're pretty close to the middle of U.S. earners. Yes, the rich are getting richer and leaving 99.99% of us behind. But nobody has put a price on happiness--yet. [This article consists of a complex diagram, charts, tables and art text. Chart —
Most happy — priests and clergy
Least happy — gas station attendants
Amazing isn’t it. Are family values coming back?
I thought this was so interesting, though, that those who serve others, priests, clergy, doctors, etc. are the happiest.

bump
Yes, it is!
I was being ironic and cynical about what so many of us have become by writing “Turkey Day” (what we hear so often) instead of Thanksgiving (my real word preference).
Thanks for the bump. Amazing numbers, huh?
They are interesting numbers.
But I hope that high number for priests/clergy isn’t inflated by
“the halo effect”...from “candy-coating” a response to a pollster.
In other words, reticence of priest/clergy to give an answer that
might make it sound like they are unhappy or just “happy”...when
they don’t want pollsters to think bad of them or religion at large.
Having said that, I do hope it’s a valid stat.
It must have freaked out the general staff at TIME!
Housekeepers and butlers in 2nd place.... who would have thunk it?
Even in government jobs?
**It must have freaked out the general staff at TIME!**
This is exactly what I thought this morning when I heard about it.
What I said — or someone else said, I guess, was that we were surprised that Time didn’t dump the survey and refuse to publish the results.
The priest at our meeting this morning (Serra Club — lay people that support people in the priesthood or studying for consecrated life of some kind) said he was also amazed at the article. But is also concurred with the theme of service and giving of one self.
I think priests answered honestly. Even though their work as a poastor may be very difficult at times, I believe it could be very rewarding.
Serving others again, I guess.
I hope your answer is sarcasm even though you didn’t mark it as such. Our priest works all six days of the week with one day off. That’s more than most U. S. workers who only work five days a week.
**Even in government jobs?**
LOL! I wonder about the House of Representatives and the Senate, however! LOL!
BTTT for more comments.
Had to reply to the title.
Of course our Priests have great jobs they have the best how to manual ever written.
