Amsterdam - Tree surgeons are to examine whether the so-called Anne Frank tree in Amsterdam can be supported to prevent it from falling over. Campaigners believe the tree can be saved after all. The chestnut tree that Anne Frank wrote about in her diary has been the subject of fierce debate in the Dutch capital for some time.
The capital's city council wanted to cut the tree down next Wednesday, because it is diseased and there are fears it could fall down. Neighbourhood residents and the Tree Foundation want the tree to be saved.
Ping
We have a pear tree in our backyard that was struck by lightning years ago.
The previous owner wrapped the trunk of the tree in a sheet of metal. This held the tree together, and it still blooms every year.
Maybe it could be dipped in copper to preserve it.
Thank God. Now we can go back to real issues. /sarc.
and so it should be.
I don’t know about chestnut trees, but can it be cut back so that the rootstock can regenerate a new trunk?..................
"Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the technology to make the world's first bionic tree."
Oh, joy!
I think the guy on the old thread who suggested chopping it into one inch blocks (ok, 2.5 cm blocks) and selling it had the best business plan.
Anne Frank tree saved for now
Amsterdam - An Amsterdam court has ruled that there is no need to cut the Anne Frank tree. The judge ruled in favour of local residents and a foundation dedicated to the saving of the tree which applied for a temporary injunction. The chestnut tree that Anne Frank wrote about in her diary has been the subject of fierce debate in the Dutch capital. The owner and the district council say the tree is sick and may fall over. But the judge said there is enough time to wait for the district council’s ruling on objections lodged against the proposed fell.
