The Arnulfo L. Oliveira Memorial Library at the University of Texas at Brownsville and Texas Southmost College today will open two exhibits on the proposed 700-mile U.S.-Mexico border wall.

Opening ceremonies are from 2 to 3 p.m. at the library. The keynote speakers will be UTB-TSC President Juliet V. Garcia and Cameron County Commissioner Sofia Benavides.

“Art Against the Wall” has already been exhibited this fall at South Texas College’s Pecan Campus in McAllen and Mid-Valley Campus in Weslaco. The visual art display features works by South Texas College fine arts department instructors that demonstrate their opposition to the wall using oils, digital techniques, metal, wire and other materials.

“Walls Through History and the Texas-Mexico Border Wall” was created by UTB-TSC library staff and uses photographs of famous walls, like the Berlin Wall and Great Wall of China, to visually compare them to the border wall that will ultimately divide the United States and Mexico.

Visitors to the exhibits can also anonymously fill out a questionnaire asking their ethnicity, age range and whether they are for or against the border wall being constructed.

Two more examples of why U.S. Citizens are convinced assimilation IS NOT HAPPENING!

Our institutions are being overtaken by anti-American a--holes.

The better an artist is at art (painting, writing, acting) the worse he is at politics.

I might get some flame/heat for this opinion, but so be it.

I will preface my remarks with the fact that I am a strong proponent of Border Security to include a wall/fence in certain areas. I have seen the plans for the wall through the metro area of Brownsville along the Rio Grande River. In fact the wall will cut off huge portions of American land, in essence ceding that land to Mexico. This is due to the fact that the river bends quite radically through the Brownsville area and the wall route will be straight. It will cut off huge areas of American land which are fingers/penensulas along the river route. In the past 5 years or more the Border Patrol has the illegal crossings in the Brownsville metro area well under control to the point that very little activity is in this area any longer.

Just north of Brownsville is a different story all the way up to and north of Laredo.

I want a wall built, even though I am not certain its effectiveness will be cost efficient with the current planning.

For one who isn't familiar with the Rio Grande River as it flows through Brownsville, dumping into the Gulf just 20 miles east of town, it may be hard to comprehend what I am talking about. Looking at a small scale map of the area might help.

It just seems as usual the folks out in D.C. take a hammer to do a job that a thumb tack might well be enough.

Just my thoughts and wearing my flame retardant suit.

Thanks for all the pings.

I’m here. I would think our problem is more expired visas than river crossings. I disagree with some that coming in some is giving up land. That area could be used by the border patrol to stop them before they reach the fence.
