Scott McClellan Levels Charges of Deception Against White House Over CIA Leak Case

WASHINGTON — Former White House press secretary Scott McClellan is lashing out at the Bush administration's handling of the CIA leak case in his new book over what he said was intentional misinformation given to him by the administration and claiming the president was "involved" in the media run-around.

The Politico reported Tuesday on its Web site that the publisher of "What Happened: Inside the Bush White House and What's Wrong With Washington" released a three-paragraph excerpt of the book highlighting the contentious period.

"I stood at the White House briefing room podium in front of the glare of the klieg lights for the better part of two weeks and publicly exonerated two of the senior-most aides in the White House: Karl Rove and Scooter Libby," McClellan wrote.

"There was one problem. It was not true."

McClellan also writes: "I had unknowingly passed along false information."

"And five of the highest ranking officials in the administration were involved in my doing so: Rove, Libby, the vice president, the president's chief of staff and the president himself." At the time, the president's chief of staff was Andy Card.

McClellan also writes he felt his trust was breeched.

"The most powerful leader in the world had called upon me to speak on his behalf and help restore credibility he lost amid the failure to find weapons of mass destruction in Iraq."

First, she wasn’t covert. And if she was, the president can declassify anything he wants/whenever he wants. Case (should be) closed.

Second, the White House didn’t know/ didn’t care if Armitage blabbed. He is a fool on many levels and I feel better now that he is no longer in his position.

Third, the investigation is over. No one could prove she was covert. No cover up.

Lastly, I’m not going to judge this based on 2 paragraphs from an entire book. The majority of America doesn’t care about this and they are right not to. Oh yeah, McClellan was awful at his job, too.

No one else cares. They didn’t care then and they don’t care now. In fact, most don’t and never did know anything about it.

I haven't gone over all the testimony, but appeared that the evidence that Libby lied consisted in contrary recollections by others like Tim Russert, who had less than stellar records of correctly remembering the facts...but the prosecutor was out to get someone and the jurors convicted Libby because they didn't have the chance to convict anyone higher up in the administration.

Scott. How could Rove and Libby be involved when Armitage admitted he is the leaker?
