I will not say personal derogatory things about Rep. Murtha because he is a retired Army Reserve Colonel.
I will question his beliefs and statements.
I will agree with Rep. Murtha on one thing...that we can’t win the war in Iraq. STOP before you attack me, and let me explain.
I’m not actually agreeing with Rep. Murtha as he sees it. What I am saying is that we can’t win the war on the ground in Iraq under the current rules of engagement ROE, that our troops must operate under. Instead of bringing the troops home, I recommend to the President that he “unlease” them.
First actions to take:
(1) Declare that ALL arms must be surrendered immediately by all parties not approved of by the Iraqi government and the US Commander on the ground. Meaning ALL militias would be disarmed - especially Sadr’s.
(2) Only allow uniformed troops (Iraqi and US approved) to keep and bear arms.
(3) Anyone else - no matter who - that is seen bearing or found with arms should be a legitimate target for our military and the Iraqi military. If they see an armed individual not in an approved uniform - they die unless they immediately surrender.
Finally, give the US Military commander on the ground the authority to disarm even Iraqi approved units if he thinks they pose a credible threat to our troops.
By disarming that rabble, and killing those that won’t. We can restore order and win. IMO the current ROE puts our troops at too much risk. Unleash our troops and put them on the offensive instead of being targets on convoys, and we would clean that mess up very quickly.
BTW - Let us stop the illusion that we are liberators - that is a future bonus. Right now we are rightfully occupiers, and should act that way. Stop the illusion of Iraqi sovereignty - the government there exists only at our pleasure.
Very, very good plan for peace and re-constitution of Iraq.
Very good.
Benedict Arnold was a general in the Continental Army but that didn't stop George Washington, and the history books, from getting "derogatory" on him.
A traitor who was in a position of trust, especially in a national defense capacity, is MORE deserving of our wrath than a penny-ante code pink traitor. How did you ever come to believe otherwise? It must be by conflating our patriotic defenders with the traitors who wear the uniform as a costume. I think this was a media driven head job on US citizens from back when they were pushing the Kerry presidential run.
