You keep that bonus money.

That won’t happen. They garnish the tax refunds and employment checks. Believe me they will get their money one way or another. It is pitiful that is for sure.

On my second enlistment the finance department doubled my my bonus check (printed twice). I took the second one back and told the clerk I'd already recieved and deposited my bonus. So how did he solve it? He direct deposited the amount to my account and then did monthly deductions (ok by me as I accrued interest on the extra amount).

There should be a caveat in the re-up contract that allows service members to keep their bonus if they have to be separated due to service related injuries. Good question to pose to a candidate.
