Happy Thanksgiving? Oh, I hope not.
Dont get me wrong. Im not like the Seattle school system that e-mailed teachers reminding them that Thanksgiving Day is a day of mourning for Native Americans. If angry Indian activists want to turn my turkey and dressing into a celebration of their conquest by superior European culture, its OK by me.
But the last thing Americans need this Thanksgiving is more happy. Were ODing on the stuff already.
I know, I know - the subprime lending crisis, gas prices, the war in Iraq - were a nation of discontent, according to USA Today. In its most recent poll, only 26 percent are satisfied with the state of our union.
On Thanksgiving Day 2007, we are a nation of grumpy, fussy, unhappy people who cant find anything to smile about. Which proves weve been happied out of our minds.
It always annoys Americans in general (and angry Democrats in particular) to point this out, but we are probably the luckiest generation of Americans ever.
Since the beginning of the Reagan era over 25 years ago, we have just two years in recession. In my adult lifetime, only the New England Patriots have a better record than the American economy. The attack on 9/11 was an estimated $500 billion blow to the economy, and yet we continue to prosper.
American workers today own more stuff, make more money and live in more comfort than ever before. And we apparently use all our leisure time bitching about how much we spend on gasoline.
Yes, gas costs too much. Yes, medical care costs too much. Yes, some people have lousy jobs.
But more often than ever, that gas is being pumped into beautiful new cars, and that medical care includes luxurious amounts of botox and hair restoration.

No society where people regularly spend five to ten dollars just for the luxury of getting an erection can consider itself unhappy, the price of gasoline be damned.
LOL! Great line!
Thank God for whatever happiness we can find, and hope for the happiness of others.
Happy Thanksgiving!
On a scale of 1 to 10, my happiness factor this year is about 9.5.
