Live breaking report at CNN En Español. Just a heads up in the website for now.
Colombia's president Alvaro Uribe has just rejected Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez' mediation with the FARC narco-guerrillas on the release of the French hostages.
It seems as if Hugo Chavez tried to meddle in the affairs of Colombia's armed forces.
A senator named Pilar Cordoba made a phone call to General Montoya, Chief of Staff of the Colombia Armed Forces, and then put Hugo Chavez on the line. General Montoya first evaded Chavez and then terminated the call and informed his superiors of the situation.
The Colombian minister in charge of the peace process called the situation "serious".
President Uribe just made some statements on live TV which I couldn't make out...

From the link above:
Uribe called off the mediation late on Wednesday, saying Chavez had spoken with armed services commander Mario Montoya and requested information about the hostages.
That violated an agreement that only Uribe and Chavez would hold discussions between the two countries about hostages held by the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, or FARC, the government said in a statement.
“You cannot accept the president of another country requesting information directly from your top military commander,” said Pablo Casas, analyst at Bogota think tank Security & Democracy. “That is totally against protocol.”
Forgot to mention that the talks also involve three American hostages.
Manic Troll Chavez overestimates his charm and personal attractiveness.
If oil drops below $50, and/or he starts killing substantial numbers of Venezuelans, Chavez may need his Swiss bank accounts and French Riviera villa.
Would be better if it read "Uribe ends Chavez MEDICATION".
So, will there now be a civil war b/w Venezuela and Colombia?
Another “Porque no te callas?” moment for Hugo.
Porque = Por que
Better yet...”Uribe ends Chavez” There, fixed.
Great, let's support Columbia.
The official statement posted on Radio Caracol:

...and don’t let the door hit you on the way out.
Amateur translation:
The President of the Republic [of Colombia] declares:
1. Today, Senator Piedad Cordoba made a phone call to the Chief of the Army, General Mario Montoya, asked him for an appointment, and immediately, passed the call on to President Hugo Chavez of Venezuela. President Chavez asked General Montoya questions about the FARC hostages.
2. In the meeting at Santiago, Chile, President Uribe had told President Chavez that he did not approve of direct communications between the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and Colombia’s High Command.
3. As a result, the President of the Republic terminates the mediation of Senator Piedad Cordoba and President Chavez, to whom we thank for the help they provided.
Bogota, November 21, 2007.
It wouldn’t be a civil war. That denotes an internal conflict within the boundaries of a given country.
“Porque = Por que”
Perhaps the right spelling would be “porky”
Argh.....
I saw “Medication”. LOL. Chavez could use some!
Hence one of my nicknames for him: El Gordito.
