I thought the Chinese reversed that decision after the bad press it gave them.

They did reverse, but by that time the fleet was heading toward Japan and did not want to turn around. I am in HK and would have liked to have seen them. I called the Consulate here to confirm the story.

Would have loved to have seen the Kitty. I think this is her last year of commission. Wonder what City will have the honor of having her as a museum?
We know San Fran will not get/want her.

Fools these communists are. A Carrier full of sailors with booku (?) bucks in their pockets and potential secrets in their booze soaked minds … opportunity lost. Might be Christmas present in disguise for us.

“Hundreds of family members had flown to Hong Kong to spend Thanksgiving with their sailors.”

How sad for the sailors and their families!

They did, after the ship was past the point of no return back to ports more accommodating.

Perhaps George W Bush should reverse, Richard Nixon’s decision.

The US-PRC relationship clearly benefits only China.

Why continue it?

China opens Hong Kong to U.S. carrier
Thu Nov 22, 2007 11:19pm EST

By James Pomfret

HONG KONG (Reuters) - China blocked a long-planned Thanksgiving visit to Hong Kong by a U.S. aircraft carrier group, then abruptly changed its mind on Thursday.

But it was too late to save the holiday visit. A U.S. official said the trip has since been scrapped and the ships continued steaming to their Japanese base.

The USS Kitty Hawk group and its 8,000 airmen and sailors were expected in Hong Kong on Wednesday, but the U.S. State Department said the visit had been refused by China.

I spent Christmas 1991 in Hong Kong on the USS Elliot. The local Americans living there hosted any and all sailors for Christmas dinner. The office buildings were all lit up with Christmas lights for the holiday. It was lot of fun.

Maybe, folks in Beijing are worried about Democracy Supporters Marching in Hong Kong on the 15th anniversary of Tiananmen Square. Hong Kongers are unhappy with officals in Beijing.

Keep your eye on Canton every Chinese revolution has started in that southern city.

Before we start blocking their slave labor-made imports, we had probably better stop selling them tons of our debt daily.

” The office buildings were all lit up with Christmas lights for the holiday. It was lot of fun.”

Actually, the buildings are always lit up here. Every night at 8pm, there is a laser show with all the building lights going on and off and changing color and lasers. Very cool. Would hate to pay the electric bill.

Yes, very sad for the families involved but this mean-spiritedness and short sightedness is very typical of Stalinist thug Commies (and Dimocratz).

If George W Bush were to rescind Richard Nixon’s (what increasingly looks like naive) decision to switch our recognition from the ROC to the PRC, we could simply renounce that debt.

Since it was acquired dishonestly, that seems fair.

Time for patty-cakes, is over. We either stand up now, or we fight a nuclear war later.

Which is preferable?...

Folks here in NC are trying to organize an effort to bring her to Wilmington, NC to join the battleship USS North Carolina.

China is not our friend and is a more serious long-term threat to our security than even Islamic terror. Drastic modification of our tread relationship with them is long overdue: an arrangement that has hemorrhaged money and jobs from U.S. to China. Then we TRY to re-gain our independence - if it isn’t too late considering they have $1.4 Trillion in U.S. currency. I am weary of the United States of America behaving with docile servitude to this hostile and oppressive power - one which NEVER admits to wrongdoing - and our people rewarding China by buying up its goods.

They’re letting us know it’s them not our pal Britain who owns Hong Kong now. We should prepare ourselves for the new Pacific order which means that if we want peace and we can have it at their price.Of course the price will be our removal to at least Hawaii or maybe further that will show that we are reasonable about the new world order.
