The Xinhua news agency described the yuan's rise Friday as its 73rd record high so far this year. Indeed, the yuan has strengthened 12% since July 2005, when a 2% revaluation ended a decade where Beijing held the exchange rate static around 8.3 yuan to the dollar. The Chinese currency is up 5.4% this year.
