No, a life sentence is a life sentence. 17 years is when they are eligable for release on parole. Once they are released, they are effectively on parole for the rest of their lives, and if they break the terms of their release, they’re back inside to continue serving their life sentence...
“...and if they break the terms of their release, theyre back inside to continue serving their life sentence...”
You mean they will have to go back to jail when they kill someone else? How cruel.../<sarcasm
Yeah, that’s what I meant , they’ll be out shortly.
There are dozens and dozens of organizations whose sole purpose is to get criminals like this found innocent, and if they aren’t successful at that, their next line of offense is to get them back on the street, and mingled into law-abiding society as quickly as possible.
Odds are that some organiztion will soon sue for some ‘irregularity’ in the trial, or in the sentencing.
Often times they have some success, and once that happens, in keeping with their prime objective of getting criminals back into law-abiding society, they re-double their efforts.
Oooh, that'll teach 'em.
Gotcha.... The killer is released after 17 years but is really still serving a life sentence. It's a "virtual" life sentence. And he goes from "virtual" jail back to real jail after he kills somebody else. Rinse and repeat.
