EMISSION: IMPOSSIBLE (NY Gov Spitzer Plan To Force Power Plants To Buy "Credits" For Emitting CO2)
NY Post ^ | November 23, 2007

Gov. Spitzer's boast last week that power plants will soon have to pay for the right to emit carbon dioxide is just the latest sign of his unseemly obeisance to over-the-top environmentalism.

Spitzer told Congress how New York has joined 10 northeastern states in a Kyoto-style project called the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI), meant to combat global warming.

In 2009, these states will force power plants to buy CO2 "allowances," which will be traded on the open market.

Plants will have to get one credit for each ton of CO2 they emit. The supply of credits, to start, will be capped at 64 million - the average annual power-plant emissions in New York from 2002 to 2004. The figure will then drop slightly each year, for a 10 percent cut by 2019.

The plan's flaw is its goal: It's designed to boost electricity costs - and even force some plants to close.

“The plane was above the peaks of the skyscrapers when suddenly, with the abruptness of a shudder, as if the ground had parted to engulf it, the city had disappeared from the face of the earth. It took them a moment to realize that the panic had reached the power stations - and the lights of New York had gone out.”

Wrong!

Those who profit the most, are those who are against this thing.

Think about it....

They oughta just cut off the power to the governors mansion. After all, they have to reduce emissions. And they can’t afford to pay all these extra fees.

God knows there’s enough hot air comin from Albany to run half the state.

Is this guy ever gonna get a clew what a jerk he is?

So who are they supposed to buy carbon credits from..... Al Gore’s company? Is this a political payoff to Al for something?

Tell you what. Since I live on 23 acres of trees I’m going to write to all the power companies and volunteer to sell them my carbon credits for half of what Al wants.

" ... American greenhouse gas emissions."

THERE ARE NO SUCH THING AS GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSIONS !!

There air "up there" ,, is just that ... air ... not co2 or methane or whatever .... So we don't emit anything that would make the planet into a greenhouse.

If you accept the words and phraseology and use them in language ... it doesn't matter what you say ... you're a greenieweenie.

Yup, the east coast libocrits should indeed pay more for their power. In fact, methinks that should actually be forced to generate their own power. Let it be wind, nuclear, or letting Kennedy pedal a bike for the rest of his homicidal life. This would - of course - result in a true conservative dream: letting the b**tards freeze to death in the dark.

“n 2009, these states will force power plants to buy CO2 “allowances,” which will be traded on the open market.”

I wonder when Joe six pack is going to figure out why his electric bill went through the roof. As if he is not tapped out already. Being that inflation is really over 10% and not the cooked up numbers the government is feeding us. What is even more crazy about this is that since it is on the market then the speculators will be free to force the price of these credits up through the roof. Just a they do oil. The wealthy speculators get to pocket a bunch of money, and the tax payer gets to foot the bill. Just wonderful. Maybe when Joe six pack can’t afford anymore beer, then maybe he will figure it out.

NY Gov Spitzer Plan To Force Power Plants To Buy "Credits" For Emitting CO2

Does NY have the right to tax CO2 emissions that occur in another state or even Canada?

I'd be investigating Spitzer for some clandestine ownership in a CO2 trading scheme.

I wouldn't put it past this mob-like figure to be using government policy to bring business to "Cousin Vinny's" company.

It would be fun to see him try. He should also know that New York is part of a *grid* that is waaaaay bigger than the state and even includes a bit of Canada.

The whole carbon credits idea is nothing but a socialist plot to further drive the US to ruin, while enriching the elites like Al Gore and the folks at Goldman Sachs. Does any SANE person believe that even IF reducing CO@ could stop the natural warming of the planet, and even IF the US cut CO2 emissions in HALF, that the rest of the world would not just fill in where our CO2 emissions were cut? Will Saudi Arabia pump less oil? NO!!...Will China stop opening one new cheap/dirty coal plant every 7-10 days? NO!! Will India and the rest of the developing world slow there economies in order to cap their quickly rising CO@ emissions? NO, NO, NO!!! The morons who have devised these carbon trafing schemes are taking everyone for fools. As they jst off to the UN Climate Change Conference in their private jets, the rest of us are elft to ponder a country with energy shortages, higher costs, and a declining economy. I feel like I am leving in an alternate reality, where black is white, and vice versa.
