Cokie says that, if we had done Iraq right from the start, we could have had a completely different picture. She blames it on lack of enough troops from the outset.

I’m not so sure about that and I think it will be studied for a long time. I think it is possible that we had to get to a tipping point with the populace that changes the whole dynamic of the situation.

I agree with your last sentence - the people in Iraq had to get tired of the entire process and the constant state of war and siege before this would settle down. Before, they could not do that because their leader would take them away. Now they can rule by majority, if they choose to do so and persevere.

Well here is some more just about to dish dinner.

Roast pork, stuffing, next bit a recipe given to me by an American (:o) sweet potatoes mashed with butter, sugar and cinnamon.

Desert is Christmas pudding, story behind this is that last Christmas in the sale I picked this up for about half priced and intended to eat it for my birthday as the best before is the end of this month but then I went out for the day, then I was going to serve it for Thanksgivings as I do a dinner for me and dad but we were too full to eat it so we had a small portion of trifle instead.

“Fred talks common sense that would strike a stronger chord that most, but no, if Dems hold majorities in Congress, it’s unlikely it would pass. Not impossible, just difficult and certainly worth the effort.”

I believe President Fred Thompson will push for legislation that is good for the country and even if DEMS control Congress he will get things done. How? By coming out strong and OFTEN to the American people explaining why the particular legislation needs to be passed. His doing this will make Congress act because the American public will show power when they know what they WANT and DON”T WANT. We all remember what the American public (from all parties) did on the illegal immigration bill they tried to pass!

Besides, SuziQ...if jmyrlefuller was worried about Law and Order being the conflict with NBC-—I don’t believe that’s so. NBC probably bought the show from some production company. I doubt Law and Order is owned by NBC.

I would love to see abortion outlawed, but it simply is not going to happen in our lifetimes. We have not been able to get the restrictions that Britain has gotten because of the Roe v Wade roadblock. If we can get enough strict constructionist Justices on the Supremes, we have the chance of overturning Roe, and then everything goes back to status quo ante 1973.

From there, each state's citizens can vote on the restrictions they deem fitting. There will be some states that will allow abortions through the first trimester for any reason. I doubt that any will go beyond that without an extremely hard battle. Most states will enact severe restrictions because though most people are compassionate toward women who may have gotten themselves into a bind, they won't be as compassionate toward women who want to use abortion as back-up birth control.

That roast sure looks good. Do you prepare pork gravy with it?

Mrs. Chandler was preparing the candied yams for Thanksgiving when she realized that we were out of brown sugar, which is what she normally uses. So she left out the sugar and added cinnamon and nutmeg. Wow, it was good! Like pumpkin pie only much more flavorful.

She also tops the yams at some point with marshmallows which melt together to a wonderful golden brown. Alas, I have no photos.

“Fred finally shows some spark. Enough to get out my wallet for him. I’ve been waiting for the day. This was it.”

Great! I have made donations already and gave $100 on the day before Thanksgiving. I hope others who support Fred but haven’t donated will do it now. This is the time the primary candidate of your choice needs your support to help win the nomination. Wonder if all our Freeper friends who are Fred supporters have donated something to his campaign. Remember that even small donations help! GO FRED! :)

After 41 and 43 I think we’ve forgotten what a difference it makes to have one of our guys in office who is capable of taking his message directly to the people.

I don’t know, Mol. That’s the type of thinking most Republicans make and it doesn’t work. Betty Jane’s right. They need to bring this to the forefront and make the sale. Playing timid got the Dems back into power last year

I don't disagree with Betty Jane .. I'm just pointing out that how one presents an argument, issue, cause or whatever to the WHOLE country can make or break it

Whether we want to admit it or not .. the liberal media has the upper hand in presenting and shaping the issue to the public and will use it to achieve their goal.

For example .. Ron Paul may be right on the spending issues being out of control in Congress .. the fact remains that the dude is a nut case and not someone I would follow and look towards for leadership

Tank may be right on protecting the broder .. but he tends to go a tad to far in presenting his case and I would not look towards him for leadership either

Am I making any sense???

I’ve become less and less enamored with Lucianne lately.

I used to like her ‘must reads’ for her comments, but her attacks on Fred are just nasty.

If you cooked your stuffing in a casserole instead of inside some other food, like a turkey, then it’s not stuffing, it’s dressing, at least here in the American South (and on the Food Network).

It all looks gorgeous, nit picking aside.

I hope you had a happy birthday.

Don't make fun of Vice Admiral Stockdale. He was out of his element as VP candidate, but too good a man to mock.

I was not mocking Admiral Stockdale. He was a decent, brave and honorable man.

The "R2P2" Star Wars reference was to the humorous idea of a Ross Perot/Ron Paul Presidential ticket, and the squeaky and chirpy terms referred to Ron Paul's manner of public speaking.

I regret my meaning was unclear. I would further add that I have been disgusted and ashamed of my countrymen for the shoddy manner in which genuinely heroic and honorable Vietnam vets such as Admiral Stockdale, Jeremiah Denton and others have been treated, while cowards and traitors such as John Kerry, have been lionized and rewarded for betraying their country and their fellow soldiers.

Best regards to you.

LOL. Don’t ‘sic’ me, boy! I never could spell Guil... er, Rudy, and therefore I would prefer a president I can spell.

And I can spell Fred.

I believe this is the most intelligent and informative thread on Free Republic (dang, we all be smart!-ha)

Anyway, this thread has ended up being 3/4 Fred for the last 3 weeks.

I get depressed when I keep reading Fred doesn’t have a chance, but then when I see him and read this thread, I feel all better.

“But Fred’s our strongest national candidate by far, and I have confidence in the wisdom of the Pubbie primary voters to see and act on it in time.”

Agree, but I’m very wary of the odd and cumbmersome primary system that has evolved. I’d rather go back to a smoke-filled room almost.

Except that no one would be allowed to smoke in the room, so ...

“Fred is now the clearest about his economic plan, point by point, and it’ll work in the primary, if not the general.”

Fred is also clearest on illegal aliens and social security. He’s one of the very few with actual plans and not just vague promises.

I will match your donation on payday and urge others to do the same. If we wait for the MSM to help Fred get his message out, I’m afraid we’ll be greatly disappointed.
