People Before Prophets We're making too much of politicians' religious faith.

I’ve questioned your ability for rational thinking since I came onto FR. IMO all you are capable of is bashing Romney, even when the true facts are presented to you.

“I know what answer I would give, that it is none of your damned business what I believe.”

Well thank God you are running for president so we don’t have to ask you that question. Tell me, if you have children, would you ever be curious what religion their babysitter was? Or would you be content to place them with whatever Satanist or Jihadi happened around?

“The substance of my faith is between myself and G-d and with whatever fellowship of men that I choose to share it.”

All power to you. I could care less whether you worship Baal, but you aren’t running for president and I will not vote Mormon under any circumstance and neither will many others.

And what “facts” have you just presented? Nada zilch zippo, just innuendo.

I present post after post loaded with links to historical documents, which unfortunately paint the Mormon religion in a bad light. I wish it were not so, I wish they didn’t have a history of blood atonement, polygamy, superstition, secrecy, etc. My personal experiences with Mormons have also been less than happy here in Mormon rich Las Vegas.

What should I do, lie about everything just to make you happy?

You should really read Wife No. 19 by Ann Young, Brigham Young’s apostate wife, it brings out the murders and the culling of apostates and Gentiles quite vividly, all to maintain the cult. I hope you are proud to maintain the code of silence.

The Catholic church and other religions have killed countless numbers of people. Are we all guilty of what they did?

Religion is only important when it can be used to weaken your opponent. Such is the case here.

[The Catholic church and other religions have killed countless numbers of people. Are we all guilty of what they did?]

If their philosophy has not changed, well then hell yes. About the same as if you left pedophile priests in the clergy now, you certainly would be guilty.

And if Mormons have a cloistered culture that purposely shuns and ostracizes people, a culture that had it’s original roots in Blood Atonement, then certainly there is a problem. Go here to find an example of the modern day outcome (I have plenty more):

“You are a nut.”

You are a buttercup, a pine cone, a fern, a cactus, a pet rock, a mustard seed - but I tire of giving free compliments.

So mormons are evil people?

“So mormons are evil people?”

No, their religion is a cult. This leads Joe Mormon next door to in sum be a pretty good guy, however the system breaks down when you get to leadership positions, or positions of power. Most outsiders never see this aspect because on average they are dealing with Joe Mormon and not with the Bishops, or with Mormon politicians, or the infrequent outlier like Warren Jeffs (who is closer to pure Mormonism than you might think). But outsiders rarely hear what happens to those who are excommunicated or shunned or have their families torn in two.

You need to talk to people like my boss, an umpteenth generation Mormon who has been disinherited by his family because he became apostate. Or talk to the divorced gal I dated who was afraid they were going to take her children away. Or talk to me, who had a superstitious Temple Mormon business partner who cheated like hell because he thought Mormons were the chosen ones (I have numerous examples like this).

Now, if you bothered to read Ann Eliza Young’s book, Wife No. 19, you would find most of the roots of this stretching to 1875 and before. You can argue it is past history, but ask yourself why the ex-communications continue, why the LDS still need secret ceremonies, and why the antis here are so vehement (they are either nuts, OR they have experience with things you don’t, there is no real middle ground).

So is the LDS church evil? Aspects of it definitely are, and this goes back to the founding fathers Joseph Smith and Brigham Young, a finer bunch of charlatan cutthroat thieves and philanderers you’d be hard pressed to find anywhere.

Were those murdered at Jones Town evil? Were the Heaven’s Gaters evil? No, but their leaders were certainly on a path that led to evil. Even the Scientologists are not so bizarre that you can trace their xenophobia to anything so grimly insane as Blood Atonement. Given this history (which will be rehashed endlessly to great distraction in a Romney presidency), I refuse to vote Mormon and I expect enough will feel the same way that a Romney nomination will lose the presidency AND split the Republican party asunder. Romney’s battle cry ought to be, “Let’s Repeat 2006!”

Christianity could also be considered a cult, along with every other religion.

“Christianity could also be considered a cult, along with every other religion.”

If that is so, provide me the link to a website of ex-Lutherans who are in despair about their lost lives after leaving the Church, who discuss brainwashing and suicidal tendencies. I can provide multiple ex-Mormon sites of this type, same witrh Scientologists and some other groups. I have yet to find anyone who can provide a Christian denomination that has such signs of spiritual despair, perhaps you will be the first.

I suggest this is objective proof that you are full of hooey.

“That is subjective proof of nothing but your bigotry and hatred.”

Ooooh, that got your garmies in a bunch. But of course, you can’t provide a link that shows the cultlike nature of other Christian denominations, while such links are abundant for Mormons, so I guarantee you are disappointed to be shown Mormonism has cult attributes. I realize the truth hurts, but it is the first step to realizing there is a real problem that has nothing to do with bigotry.

And yes, I do hate things that harm other people, that’s a burden I’ll have to carry.
