Couple's slaying "a sad end to a sweet love story" [Romney won't be winning Washington State]
Seattle Times ^ | November 25, 2007 | Sharon Pian Chan

Brian and Beverly Mauck fit together like two pieces of a puzzle, friends recalled Saturday at a memorial service for the young couple. He was fearless, she was a daredevil; he loved football; she was an athlete.

The couple, who lived in Graham, Pierce County, were found fatally shot in their home Nov. 17. On Tuesday, police arrested a neighbor, Daniel Tavares Jr., 41. He has been charged with aggravated first-degree murder in their deaths. Charging papers said the slayings followed an argument over a $50 debt.

Hundreds of people attended the Saturday memorial service. In a two-hour tribute that overflowed into the hallway at the Federal Way Community Center, friends and family said that though Brian and Beverly Mauck's lives were cut short, they lived life to the fullest.

"They didn't let a moment slip by," said Beverly's sister Jennifer Heilbrun. "They were about trying new things and not caring about who's watching."

...SNIP...

"They ended their lives like they lived life — together," said Rick Bulman, chaplain for the Pierce County Sheriff's Office, at the service.

"It's a sad end to a sweet love story."

"Brian knew no fear," Bulman said. "We won't talk common sense." At the age of 3, he sneaked off to 7-Eleven to buy candy, crossing two four-lane highways to get there.

...SNIP...

Beverly, who worked at a car dealership, loved sports and had hoped to become a competitive speed skater until her back was injured in a car accident.

...SNIP...

Tavares, the neighbor charged in the Mauck slayings, was released from a Boston-area maximum-security prison in July after serving 16 years for manslaughter; he had killed his mother with a carving knife.

It might help the families' grieving process if Romney would stand up and say, "I made a mistake in appointing the judge who freed the murderer of Brian and Beverly Mauck." Is that so much to ask of a man who wants to be president?

Is anyone anywhere holding the judge accountable? Or the murderer? Or is any excuse okay for one who hates a candidate anyway?

If you read the whole article, you’ll see Romney has called for the judge to resign.

Not that that helps much now.

The perp, the Judge, and the RINO-ROmney, each played a role in this atrocity.

Romney could (should) have avoided this --- if he was loyal to those who elected him.

Romney should drop out of the race NOW.

I’m on record pillorying Mitt for this already, but...it really seems like the MSM only does these tearful “memorial” stories when there is an ulterior political purpose behind it.

He should have received the death penalty in the first case. Period.

I don't hate Romney. Never have. I haven't even picked a candidate for the primary yet.

Certainly the murderer is the chief culprit, and the judge made a tragic call, but is Romney totally blameless? I don't think so.

Even if Romney were totally blameless, the dems would nevertheless hammer him on this issue in a general election. They would hammer him hard. I don't think the Republicans should choose a candidate who is carrying that kind of baggage.

(Oh, and in case you're wondering, I don't hate Mormons either.)

Geez, this guy even killed his own mother with a knife.

Things are coming to the point that one must run criminal background checks on your neighbors, this guy was a strait up psychopath IMO.

I was referring to the primary. Sorry, I should have specified that.

Exactly.

The Willie Horton incident resulted in a whole lot of hand-wringing about the fact that George H. W. Bush was so crass as to bring it up in a political context (even though Al Gore was the first to mention it on the stump). I don't recall a single word of condolence or regret for the victims, appearing anywhere in the MSM.

Wikipedia treatment of Willie Horton.

I read your link. Nowhere does Romney accept any blame. He's pointing his finger at the judge. That is very different than personally accepting blame and admitting a mistake. A real man admits his mistakes.

“He did. He asked the judge to step down.”

Romney is neither a governor nor in a position to do anything, so it is a little late to make suggestions: furthermore, he was warned about this at a time when he was the aforementioned. Campaigns should not be about looking back and saying, “I did the best I could” they are about “This is what I did and it turned out right and here is what I will do again”.

Because he’s a moron, not Mormon.
