Obama’s mom has been dead for some years. But his white grandma—who, according to Obama’s own book raised and took care of him after his dad abandoned him and his mom went to school and played the hippie—is alive,well and hidden away in Hawaii. This is the woman who bandaged his skinned knees and sat by his bed when he had childhood fevers. But, while Obama is trying to prove how black he is to African-American primary voters, grandma’s presence would be inconvenient and unwelcome. In the unlikely event he’s the Democrat presidential nominee, grandma might be allowed to show her face in the general election.
