(Former (Liberal) Prime Minister Jean) Chretien tells TV host he believes U.S. invasion of Iraq was for oil
MONTREAL Jean Chretien believes the United States invaded Iraq for oil.
The former prime minister told the popular Radio-Canada television show Tout le monde en parle why he thinks U.S. President George W. Bush declared war on the Middle Eastern country in 2003.
There are some people who suspect it was oil, for the control of oil. . . , Chretien said in French during the interview, which aired Sunday evening.
The shows host, Guy A. Lepage, then told Chretien he thinks everyone believes the invasion was for oil.
Well, me too, Chretien said.
In 2003, Chretien said he would not send Canadian troops to Iraq without UN approval.
Saddam (Hussein) was a very bad dictator, but he was not a religious dictator, he said Sunday.
He fought against religious leaders in Iran, and that was an excuse (for the Americans) to go to Iraq. It doesnt make sense.

Saddam (Hussein) was a very bad dictator, but he was not a religious dictator, Oh, then that's alright then...

Then we didn’t win the war because we didn’t get their oil.
Funny how the 1991 Gulf War was over oil too. Namely Saddam invaded Kuwait to take their oil.
Why didn’t the “no blood for oil” crowd denounce Saddam spilling blood for oil?

Saddam (Hussein) was a very bad dictator, but he was not a religious dictator, he said Sunday.Jean Chretien was Prime Minister when 9/11 happened.
He would not allow the word "God" to be used at the memorial service that was held at Parliament Hill three days later.
A memorial service forced by the outpouring of regular people. He relented to the pressure, and decided on the Thursday, to have the service on the Friday.

Some would argue that the Shah, Pinochet and maybe Franco were good dictators. Men of order who prevented worse for a long time.

Why does Iraq sell the oil on the world market for market prices? If we invaded to take oil, why arent we taking it? This makes no sense whatsoever.Jean Chretien is a liberal.
You asked for sense? LOL.

It makes sense in that we would rather not have the oil or resources in the hands of terrorists.

Dear God, I wish just once we actually were the venal, cruel despots the Left wants us to be. We would have been pumping the damn Iraqi fields bone dry since Day One as repayment for the trillions we spent and the lives lost. But NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Instead I get to watch our brave warriors get attacked by pipsqueaks like this.
If this WERE for oil, moron, we'd be paying $20 a gallon for it. If it all were for oil, we just would have kept Kuwait when we had a bazillion tanks in it fifteen years ago.

Too stupid for words.
Oil is a fungible commodity. So long as Iraq's oil is getting to market, which it was under Saddam (after lining a few corrupt pockets), it doesn't matter who actually bought it. The net effect on the market and on supply is the same whether we buy it or the French do.
Another lefty economic illiterate.

“In 2003, Chretien said he would not send Canadian troops to Iraq without UN approval”
*what has just been revealed, is that Jean Cretien did not say Canada would not participate in the invasion of Iraq—he didn’t get a chance to say no—the U.S never asked Canada for our assistancee/participation in the Iraq war to begin with.
*if I can find the link, I will post the story .

Sure it was, Jean. It was just for the oil. How stupid does a guy have to be to be Prime Minister Of Canada?
