1,500 'extremists' released by Saudi

Saudi Arabia has released 1,500 reformed extremists who had been detained on charges of embracing and spreading takfeer, an ideology branding other Muslims as apostates in order to legitimise violence against them.

The 1,500 were among 3,200 militants with whom a government-appointed "counselling committee" met around 5,000 times as part of their rehabilitation, daily Arab newspaper Al-Watan said, quoting committee member Mohammad Al-Nujaimi.

“After several graded sessions with the committee, and having been convinced of their misguided vision, they renounced their erroneous ideologies, including the concept of driving out all infidels from the Arabian Peninsula,” Nujaimi, also a professor of comparative jurisprudence at the King Fahd Security College, told the newspaper, quoted Saudi daily Arab News.

Saudi-born Al-Qaeda chief Usama bin Laden has called on his followers to "cleanse the Arabian Peninsula of polytheists".

Nujaimi said the suspects had been largely confused about the meaning of jihad, which led to them believing in committing rampant violence. This ideology also views present Muslim rulers, scholars and the public as apostates, and therefore demands the establishment of a single Islamic state, he added.

The counselling committee is the brainchild of Prince Muhammad bin Naif, assistant minister of interior for security affairs, and was established in 2004 with the approval of Interior Minister Prince Naif.

The Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Endowments, Call and Guidance jointly supervise activities of the committee comprising 100 members. Members include religious scholars, preachers, specialists in religious doctrine and law, psychologists and social workers.

The committee, which is tasked with the duty of reforming youth members, firstly evaluates the personality of the suspect and the ideological crisis he has suffered, and then decides how best to alter his mind of any mistaken impressions, said Al-Nujaimi.

In the later stages of counselling, the committee holds many sessions on the concept of obedience to a ruler, loyalty, conditions for bayah (declaring allegiance to a ruler) and the mistaken concept of murder and violence without guilt.

The paper did not clarify if the remaining 1,700 militants had refused to renounce the ideology of takfeer.

Actually the President must meet and deal with people every day that disgust him but diplomacy must go on no matter how hypocritical or repugnant the issue or leader of that country may be.

Abdullah knows that Al Qaeda, getting its butt whipped in Iraq, needs a new group of terrorists.

Thus, this release.

Saudi is an enemy.

Only 50%, the other 50% are headed to Mexico so they can sneak into the country and blow us up right here. Good thing Saudi is our Alli. It would be embarrassing if anyone but Saudi nationals were to start blowing us up. </sarc

Why walk when you can fly?

The President should thank his good friend King Abdullah for his strong support.

Shep just nailed them on FOX. He said with friends like
them, we don’t need enemies. And he said after he “has”
to report on our Saudi “friends” he wants to just go
outside and spit.

Go Shep!
