On the night before a major Mideast peace conference in Annapolis, Md., Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert watches from his seat as President Bush departs after making hasty remarks to a gathering of summit diplomats

So many beautiful pictures....so much preparation....so many countries sending emissaries, but the DBM must keep up the misinformation that Pres. Bush doesn't do anything. Hasty remarks, indeed!

And for my yesterday toaster,
when you have time, I’d like
the 6th picture in post #13
of the President and Condi ..
the darker one.

Thank you VERY much .. ;)

IRAQ SAYS STAY
By INVESTOR’S BUSINESS DAILY

Winning The War: One of the most effective rhetorical arguments thrown at supporters of the war in Iraq has been that Iraqis don’t even want us there. But the truth is they do — and badly.

According to the Associated Press, Iraq’s government will soon ask the U.S. to keep troops in that country long-term to guarantee its security against terrorists and predatory neighboring states such as Iran, Syria and Saudi Arabia.

It’s all part of a new “strategic partnership” between the U.S. and Iraq, according to what the AP described as two “senior Iraq officials” from different political parties.

The Iraqis also will ask that the United Nations end its involvement inside the country, go home and wrap up its role in deciding Iraq’s fate — a job it has had since the first Gulf War in 1991. The U.N.’s official mandate expires next year.

All this is good news, both for Iraq and the U.S.

IRAQ: BEYOND THE DROP IN VIOLENCE
Maliki: Broadening coalition government.
By Amir Taheri

November 26, 2007 — ‘A TORRENT of good news”: So The New York Times described the reports of a significant fall in violence in Iraq. But reducing all Iraqi news to measures of violence can hamper understanding of a complex situation.

Those who opposed the overthrow of Saddam Hussein in 2003 prefer to focus on violence, for it has seemed to confirm their claim that the war was wrong. They’ve downplayed all good news from post-Saddam Iraq - the end of an evil regime that had oppressed the Iraqi people for 35 years; the return home of a million-plus Iraqi refugees in the first year after liberation; the fact that the Iraqis got together to write a new constitution and hold referendums and free elections - for the first time in their history - and moved to form coalition governments answerable to the parliament.

The drop in violence is certainly a good thing. But other Iraq news, both good and bad, needs to be taken into account.

I always look forward to the Barney video on the White House
website. They’re always adorable! It was quite a brainstorm,
thinking up these cute videos every year.

Wonder whose idea it originally was.

My daughter and I will attend a book signing ‘party’ for Jenna Bush tomorrow night .

I bought her book the day it came out. I asked the manager of our local Borders why it was not visible when I walked into the store and why Chris Matthews book had a six-book spread at eye level, forced into the view of everyone walking into the store, when no one was even going to buy it. He said that those decisions were made higher up than store level. Yeah, right.

I read Jenna's book in one day. It is a very good book.
