“We apologize to you for eradicating our (together with the Jews) centuries-long presence in the Arabian Peninsula as the only high tech educated civilization that region ever knew until reimporting it from the West in the late 19th century. We’re SOOOO sorry our mere presence and refusal to convert provoked feelings of genocide within you. We’re even more sorry that you acted on your intolerant rages and carried it out.”

You have a point there. I’ve probably painted with too wide a brush.

Thanks.

A Common Word Between Us and You identifies some core common ground between Christianity and Islam which lies at the heart of our respective faiths as well as at the heart of the most ancient Abrahamic faith, Judaism.

Wow. Right out of the box they step in it. "Well, we all know that commonality is the most important thing. We're all organic life forms. After all, what's the real difference between a chimp and a human, right? And what's the real difference between right-handed and left-handed molecules of chemicals? It's just a matter of perspective, of appearance. Ask all those thalidomide babies. They'll all give you a thumbs-up or its functional equivalent. And both you and a robber really only want the same thing: your money. There's just SO much common ground in all these things that the differences don't really count. And finally, we all know, though we in the liberal Christian seminaries don't like to admit it, that the most important members of our respective religious profession all pee standing up."

What was THIS “LETTER” from the Moslems?

[While the following thread is not the letter itself, it does talk about it.]

Why Benedict XVI Is So Cautious with the Letter of the 138 Muslims
"The letter from the 138 Muslims addressed last month to Benedict XVI and to the heads of the other Christian churches received a spectacular collective reply in a message signed by 300 scholars and published in "The New York Times" on November 18."

Ironic, at a time when the fastest growing churches are those churches that are faithful the Bible and do not compromise with the world.

Here’s the problem with that, and why Daniel 9 doesn’t say what you think it does in reference to this issue.

God’s punishment was being bestowed upon the Israelites for sins Daniel and the others had been committing (”All Israel has transgressed your law and turned away, refusing to obey you.”—Daniel 9:11). Daniel, in his unique leadership position, was explicitly made responsible for the people he represented before God, the Israelites.

There is no person on earth who represents and is held accountable for God’s people who are Christians. As you can tell, there are over 100 people who, at the most, can only represent themselves and the congregations they lead. They can’t represent people for the following:

“...we want to begin by acknowledging that in the past (e.g. in the Crusades) and in the present (e.g. in excesses of the “war on terror”) many Christians have been guilty of sinning against our Muslim neighbours. Before we “shake your hand” in responding to your letter, we ask forgiveness of the All-Merciful One and of the Muslim community around the world.”

These people have no authority to ask for forgiveness of the sins other people did before them.

Christian leaders ask for Muslim forgiveness

How about asking for St. Sophia back?

Then we can talk.

The only problem with the Crusuades as far as I’m concerned, is they left the field of battle before they had fully destroyed the enemy.

So essentially, its contents are secret to the general public? How did these “leaders” see it?

No shock that someone (one only?) from the “Evangelical Lutheran Church in America” is on there. Also a Lutheran Seminary, but I don’t know its affiliation. No outright mention of the old Lutheran churches.

Plus the Muslim leaders are using these minor Christian leaders to try to do a divide and conquer of both the west and the Christians, since they know that the major leaders, such as Pope Benedict XVI and the Orthodox are praying and working for Christian unity and to make the Christian Church stronger.
