Eh, how about the Muslims asking forgiveness from the Christians for taking over Egypt, Ethiopia, Andalusia (although later returned to the Christians), and of course, Constantinople, the second Rome?
It doesn't strike us because we think of Northern Africa, the Middle east, Western Asia, etc. as almost "aboriginally" Muslim cultures. Not so. There were thriving Christian and Jewish communities from Chaldea to Castile. Norethern Africa alone at one time had 200 Catholic dioceses. When the Muslims took them over, they were taking over 2/3 of Christendom.
Interesting and grim history here by Bat Ye'or: The Decline of Eastern Christianity: From Jihad to Dhimmitude (1996), and The Dhimmi: Jews and Christians Under Islam (1985).
The Crusades weren't any more "aggressive" than the landing of the Allies at Normandy.
