In 1978, KISS tickets were $18. each at the box office here.

The closest I ever experienced to the prices you are talking is the Zappa concert at the Boston Tea Party in 1973, which was a whopping $3.50.

Either you live where concerts are dirt cheap, or you have your years and dollars mixed up.

This was in Miami, years are correct. I’d never even heard of Kiss until I went to school in NC in ‘78.

“Now here’s what really gripes my butt....when the city fathers want a new colesium they tell the public “vote ‘yes’ on this $40 million bond proposal so we can attract big events”....well the new arena will attract big events all right, but the average guy will never see one unless he’s prepared to pay thru the nose....and this in a building that the public paid for!!”

Happened here in Kansas City with the new SPRINT CENTER.

I’m with your wife on that: in September, I heard on the radio that the Scorpions were playing where I was. I bought 2 tickets, dragged my kid sister with me and ended up dropping nearly $500. total on beer, wine, popcorn and teeshirts.

That’s why I tell one of my co-workers (who is also a live music fan):

YAAA, this means I am bettah than yooo, becozz I saw dee Scorpions, und yooo did nawt.

We both then laugh, and get on with our respective duties.

You either like live music and are willing to pay for the auditory experience or not. Neither side is wrong, it’s purely personal preference.

Man, I’m jealous. Skynyrd before the crash ONCE would’ve been worth a fortune to a feller like me. You got ‘em TWICE, cheap!

Color me GREEN!

The last multi-band concert I was at was $40/head at an outdoor venue in 1994. Ugly Kid Joe, Tom Cochrane, Trooper, some band I can’t remember, and Def Leppard. All day long, festival seating. Lotsa fun.

“Happened here in Kansas City with the new SPRINT CENTER.”

.....we were told...”vote for the new Arena and we can get the big time basketball tournaments”....when it happened, there were NO tickets set aside for the public...you had to go thru scalpers to see a game....I went to a meeting of the Colesieum Authority and said “why don’t you set aside some tickets for the public at face value price?....after all the public paid for the building”....they stared at me like I just got off a space ship.

That’s EXACTLY what other artists have done, notably Garth Brooks recently in K.C. (my hometown). I’m not sure if it was through Ticketmaster though, but it is very possible.
