Trying to impress anything rational on University administrators today is like attempting to teach your cat how to sing: they just stare at you with a mix of scorn and amusement. Ditto most newspaper editors. If the story shows up in my local paper (the great Union-Leader), I’ll be happy to email my comments.
They could have saved time and trouble by just renaming it a “Holiday” tree.
And if it were a creche/nativity scene? The problem would be ... ?
Reindeer Clause from the SCOTUS supports leaving the Christmas tree up. It has been ruled (along with Santa and reindeer) as a secular symbol, and has nothing to do with Christianity.
A company I worked for had a retail store department where someone had put up a small Christmas Tree. A Jewish employee saw it and ripped it down. I was surprised, because he always wore a Yarmulke, and I assumed he was Orthodox. Aren’t Dennis Prager and Michael Medved Orthodox? They always say that Christmas decorations don’t offend them. Is this just an individual case, or are some branches of Judaism more or less likely to be offended? When I was growing up, a couple of Jewish friends had “Hanukkah Bushes”. Or perhaps it’s the “Bush” part that offends them now? :)
When is this politically correct stuff going to be stopped? When are we as American Legal citizens going to take to the street and be counted. The days are ticking away and we are doing NOTHING!! Who is there to help us organize??
Whats the name of this miserable bastard?
Furthermore, does anyone find it a coincidence that the Supreme Court is hearing the gun law at this election time? I am extremely leary about what is going on and hope the S. Ct. comes down on the right side but have many doubts because of the timing.
Hey! It's not a Christmas tree! It's just a really big Hannukah Bush!.... oi!
Zulu, if my memory serves me correctly didn’t we go through this same crap last year at the Seattle Airport? Christmas trees were put up and a Jewish rabbi wanted them down.
Sounds familiar.
SOmetimes they want a Channuka Menorah. Fine. Put it up too. I have no problem with that. Christianity arose from Judaism.
But don’t mess with OUR heritage in the process.
Here we go again. Every year it’s the same thing. Contact them to complain!
My late wife was Catholic; I’m Jewish. Every year we celebrated Chanukmas. Every night for eight nights we set the tree on fire. It got progressively more difficult to refire it as the week passed and it played havok with the ceiling paint. But it was done in a spirit of ecuminicalism.
Only in America: a member of a group representing less than 2 percent of the population bullies ninety percent. Does it cause resentment? You bet.
Thank you for the Christmas greeting. And a happy Hanukkah to you.
I am deeply saddened by loss of true tolerance, civility, and cooperation in this country. Used to be that Jewish co-workers offered to work the shifts on Christmas and Good Friday so their Christian friends could worship and enjoy the holiday with our families. And Christians reciprocated by working the shifts on the Jewish holy days. I have friends from several different faiths at work and we can tolerate one another’s practices. Too bad the professor in the article couldn’t look past himself.
Well, it worked with the homosexual agenda. They make up what...2-5% of the population.
Then there are the environazis we have been catering to for 30 years. Does anyone know what percentage of the population they represent?
The illegal invaders are being catered while make up 5% of our population. Just wait until they consist of 10%...which should be soon.
If muslims only make up 1% of those among us why are WE building foot baths for them in schools, airports and Quantico?
I agree with all of your observations. In our litigious, multicultural society the tail is wagging the dog. We have tyranny of the minority.
Joy to the world ......... huh professor?
