I've had it with these jokers. Who is "we"? Give these chucks a pointy stick and a loincloth, and they can go live in the woods for a few months, and then get back to the civilized world. No, the biggest challenge most of us now face is from people like this who are either invincibly ignorant MORONS or unspeakably EVIL (take your pick); ENERGY has to come from SOMEWHERE, it comes at a PRICE and is subject to SUPPLY and DEMAND. The United States is one of the most coal-rich areas in the world. Over HALF of our electric power RIGHT NOW comes from coal. If these so-called environmentalists get their way, and they probably will, then the average power bill will soon ratchet up to $400 or $500 a month, GUESS WHAT - there is gonna be some real problems for chicken little, so there is at least some consolation. Our energy "crisis" is mostly self-imposed by petty pseudo-intellectual tyrants at this point.

Most any coal fired boiler with basic Filters and Scrubbers and knowledgable operators are just great for the environment. We have a lot coal - lets get it and use it.

We have oil reserves - lets get them and use them.

Nuclear Power plants are safe (certainly safer than riding in Teddy’s car) - lets build them and use them.

Want energy independence - do the obvious! Conserve and increase the supply - now thats complicated.

In the meantime expand solar energy use beyond calculators and Traffic cameras.

Remember a lot of our imported oil comes from areas of the world that are doing their best to kill us!

Kansas and Oklahoma have each turned down applications for coal fired power plants that will be needed for future use. These are scrubbed power plants and the Oklahoma one would have used CCT to ensure emissions control. At some point American citizens will be TOLD to reduce electrical usage and you can probably get used to rolling brownouts.

The paper birch or white birch and the alder do quite well here but most don’t go over 30 feet. Some birch, especially if they have lots of space grow 50 feet tall. The black spruce and aspen do better and attain 30 feet or more after many years. None of these are commercial value. The white spruce are large enough to make some lumber if you don’t mind warping and cracking.
