1 Dead, 27 Hurt In 6-Car Crash Good Samaritan Killed Aiding Stranded Motorist
MESA, Ariz. -- A good Samaritan was killed and 27 other people were hurt after he stopped to help a motorist whose hood had popped open on U.S. 60 in east Mesa, police said.
The incident started when a dark sedan, its hood up, stopped in the road two lanes from the shoulder.
The victim came to his aid. But soon after, five other vehicles struck the Xterra, the victim or one another, said Department of Public Safety Sgt. William Rogers said.

This occurs all too frequently on Chicago's Expressways. Odds are 4-5 it was an illegal who stopped on THE FREAKING ROAD!!

I wouldn't give them all a bad rap. One time driving in route 66 from Manassas, I saw a hood pop up and hit the windshield of an old toyota or something. The driver quickly rolled down his window and drove to the side like he had practiced the maneuver before.
Didn't think there were many illegal Asians.

Seriously, it could have been an ex-con, or someone not wanting to be scrutinized 24/7 on FOX and CNN, instead of an illegal.

It could be, but it happens so frequently that is is logical to assume that it was an illegal alien. Fleeing the scene of an accident is an illegal alien modus operandi.
I myself have been the victim of an illegal alien hit-and-run. It happens all the time.
Oh, I know, and agree, but I hate rush to judgments.
We chase them down in my town, they are so commonplace.

The main latch probably hasn’t worked for years, and the safety catch finally rusted through.
If their car wasn't broken down, why would they have had the hood open? Wasd it a scam to rob the person that came to offer assistance?
Not sure why you all are saying the hood flew off the vehicle. The article said the hood was up, not the hood flew off. Where did you read that?

The latch was rusted through? Rusted through or not the hood is not going to fly off unless the car was a pro street drag racer which usually has the hood attached via cotter pins.
It happened to me years ago and that's exactly what I did. You do not stop in the middle of a busy highway.
It is an extremely frightening experience and the first thing to do when you have put the hood down is drive home and change your pants.
