Fifth-Graders take stand for workers rights
The Boston Herald ^ | December 3, 2007 | Simone Press

Fifth-graders still several years away from becoming part of the workforce protested union relations at Beth Israel Deaconnessas part of a school program designed to teach them social advocacy.

Lisa Gallatin of the Brookline-based Workmen’s Circle, an organization founded in 1900 that considers social justice a core part of what it means to be Jewish, said the protest supported union elections for hospital workers throughout Boston and coincided with topics the fifth-graders were learning about in Sunday school, including immigrant history.

“Each of the children wrote a letter to a hospital CEO explaining why they felt that the workers were not being treated fairly and why they wanted the hospitals to agree to free and fair union elections. A group of 10-year-olds went in to deliver the letters at both hospitals,” Gallatin said.

The protest of between 100 to 150 people included parents of the fifth-graders, as well as some hospital workers and their children.

Noli Rosen, 10, who attends Dallin Elementary School in Arlington, said, “A union will help the workers get better wages, better health care, more training for the jobs they do, and more respect for how they help the hospital.”

Gabriela Marks, 11, who attends the Park School in Brookline, said, “We protested so that we could tell people up there that it’s not right and we can change things,” she said.

Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center declined to comment.

And the children shall lead....

I don’t have a problem teaching kids alot of things as long as they are capable of critical thinking and are taught both sides of an issue. However, I am not sure about their participation. We do pro-troops rallies where their are kids present. If they are their with their parents then fine but as leaders...no.

Geez. Mind-washed 10-year-olds opining on labor economics. Sorry to say this, but who cares what they think? They are children. They can do no more than repeat the propaganda they have been taught. Next: Toddlers’ theories on molecular biology.

Reporters and editors who thought this was newsworthy should be fired. What a load.

“Social Gospel” and “Social Justice” are just code words for communism.

I wonder if, at this point, they consider Judaism to be a core part of what it means to be Jewish?

And remember kids:

Social justice isn't.
Social studies aren't.
Social work doesn't

The Workmen's Circle is simply a Stalinist indoctrination organ for American communism. Great that they are being allowed to poison Boston's children.

This is a Moonbat School where the parents are Moonbats and want their children taught likewise.

Great idea! Next time they can go out and protest against an abortion mill.

No? Oh, I forgot, you’re only allowed to do this for leftist causes.

I’m glad they reported this although I agree that I’m not sure how newsworthy it is to the masses. Shows us all what we are up against in the battle against Liberalism.

Brookline....proud home of Mike Dukakis and, very possibly,*more* left-wing than Boston...or Cambridge...or Berkeley. And,for the record, the median price of a single family home there is around $900K and the median price of a two bedroom condo there is around $600K.

At a family reunion a few summers ago a thirteen year old niece decided to let everybody know what she thought of George Bush. Her mother and several others thought she was oh so cute.

I told her to STHU, that no one was interested in the political ramblings of a child. I spoke quite a bit more forcefully than she's used to and she STHU immediately.
:O)
