Republicans winning new citizens for 2008 vote
The London Telegraph ^ | October 11, 2007 | Toby Harnden

Minutes after taking the Pledge of Allegiance, new American citizens are urged to register as voters by Democratic activists who see them as natural party supporters who could hold the key to the 2008 election.

But with increasing illegal immigration threatening the economy and security of the United States, many legal immigrants anxious to uphold the laws of their adopted country are moving towards the more hard-line immigration stance of Republicans.

Even in California’s Democratic-controlled San Diego, sizeable numbers of America’s newly-minted potential voters said that illegal immigrants should be penalised rather than given an easy route to citizenship as most Democrats advocate.

“For a long time, immigration was OK,” said Sara Wright, 49, a seamstress from Mexico who arrived in the US legally in 1986.

“But now, no more. A lot of really bad people come from Mexico and commit crimes.

“People are coming in and having two, three, four babies and going on welfare. Some are making money here and spending it back in Mexico.

advertisement "That’s not right. They should go back to Mexico and get a permit.”

Mrs Wright, whose American-born husband Ed served in the US Navy, was one of 1,591 people from 89 countries who became citizens at a ceremony in San Diego’s Golden Hall on Tuesday.

Nearly two thirds of them were from Mexico, whose border is just 17 miles from the city.

During the 40-minute ceremony, performed by a judge, the new citizens waved American flags, sang “America the Beautiful” and raised their rights hands as they repeated the oath to “abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty” of another nation.

Some men wore ties emblazoned with the stars and stripes while many women dressed in red, white and blue.

So, newly minted citizens care more about our laws than politicians who were born and raised here.

Notable but not surprising. You're not surprised, are you, that the NY Slimes, The Atlanta Journal and Constipation and all the media elites in America would not run with this story?

I have heard this and have two opinions ...

Either very intelligent immigrants are registering “R” for obvious or

DBM want us to believe this......

...more hard-line immigration stance of Republicans.

"Hard-line". That's a good one. If Republicans are hard-line on this issue, it's only because they are compared to the goose-down hard Dems.

Imagine spending years waiting in line, years following all the laws wrt to job permits/visas etc, years filling out paperwork, years dealing with a federal bureaucracy, paying all the fees and taxes, and years doing everything else a law-abiding immigrant has to do to live in America, and then going through the same thing 10-fold to obtain citizenship. Add to that the potential need to learn English.

Then picture a bunch of "gimmies" sneaking into America, subverting all its immigration laws, not paying taxes, sucking up government benefits, refusing to learn English (instead demanding service in Spanish - including government services!), committing property crime and violent crime wildly disproportionately, driving drunk, and then (rhetorically and literally) pissing all over the American flag, denouncing America, and demanding amnesty and a "path to citizenship" bereft of all but the most rudimentary of those steps you followed. A recipe for warm feelings of kinship between these two immigrant groups?

Doesn't fit the MSM template does it? According to the media we're against all immigrants and we are nothing but a bunch of racist, xenophobic, country bumpkins.

Someone should forward this article to the RNC and the White House. I'll never forgive Bush for being such a foolish arrogant jerk in trying to ram shamnesty down our throats. It would have destroyed our country and our culture as we know it.
