Internet translation is an imperfect thing. But a couple of things to remember...

Al Qaeda and Hezbollah have been “recruiting” women suicide bombers by seducing them, and threatening them with exposure and dishonor unless they become suicide bombers. Either way, it is a death sentence. But if they agree to become suicide bombers, they are remembered as a martyr, and their families are taken care of.

Also, many of these reluctant suicide bombers are not suicides at all. The bomb is strapped to her with a dead-man switch that detonates it if she attempts to remove it. She is then sent to the location and the bomb is detonated remotely.

In a case like this, where a woman is approaching a crowded checkpoint, but detonates without hurting anybody else, it sounds to me like she either refused to get up close to the soldiers or intentionally triggered the device prematurely by attempting to remove it before she was in a position that would harm anybody else.

So as tempting as it is to denigrate this woman and chalk up her death as a “happy ending”, one must recognize that there is a possibility that she had been forced into a no-win situation and heroically ensured that she was the only person killed.
