If Mitt was a solid conservative while he was governor, his religion would be a total non-issue.The sad thing is that Mitt never would have been elected governor if he'd been "a solid conservative". Sorry, but I've seen that conservatism doesn't "always work every time it's tried" because in many parts of the country dominated by urban thinking, conservatism isn't given a chance to even come close to working. Maybe I don't like it but it is what it is.

A Republican can't win the mayorship in Philadelphia, let alone a conservative. The political dynamics are pretty similar in Mass.
While it may be in order to win in Mass. Mitt had to run as a Liberal, it caused credibility problems with the conservative base, which MAY cost Mitt his bid for the presidency. We shall see.
