Plan Would Link Funding to Political Gains

Facing increasing evidence of military progress in Iraq, some Democratic congressional leaders are eyeing a shift in legislative strategy that would abandon a link between $50 billion in additional war funding sought by President Bush to a timetable for withdrawal of U.S. troops. Instead they would tie the measure to political advances by the Iraqi government.

Same old same old same old. Its the same defeatist wine poured into a bottle with a new label. The Democrats must think the American people are stupid.

No matter what the Dem strategy is, you can count on it not having anything to do with patriotism or truthfulness.

The Democrats realize that its impossible to fight victory but they still want to tie our troops' hands anyway. President Bush should tell them they will get to do that over his dead body.

"Instead they would tie the measure to political advances by the Iraqi government."

This is the "top down" strategy that didn't work. General Petraeus is utilizing a "bottom up" strategy (because "it works"). Don't these people in Washington keep themselves current on what is really happening in the Iraq Campaign?

These are the same incompetents that can't pass a federal budget on time and here they want to tell the Iraqi government how to do its job! Haha haha haha

They'd be happy to take him up on the offer.

I'm sure they'd love to inflict a defeat upon him. By the time the Dem primaries are over, they will switch positions. Just watch.

Of course. The Dems fully expected Iraq to get bloodier and Al Qaeda to be on the verge of taking over. Instead, things have gotten quieter there and Al Qaeda is all but annihilated. How to conceal the fact they haven't been rooting for victory? Change the subject.

The motion towards “compromise” is all on their side and this is a very good thing.

Now the key here is that the declaration of any progress and its adequacy is made by the administration. The Dems have to have a bone to throw to the extremists and the President can ensure it is the smallest possible.

Or make them fund for a full year. They would love to have the new measure something that they have some hopes might still fail, but the writing on the wall says they are going to have to face the chant:

The People Remember Who Pimped Surrender.

I think taht ths could turn out to be something unexpected by the Dems, and could end up helping Republicans vindicate themselves in the eyes of the American people.

It could turn out to do much more than the Dems want it to do. Leaving them looking like thr weak sisters come lately that they are.

Some one needs to stand up on both the House and Senate floor and after being recognized ask two simple questions of the Dems-”Is having something to hang around this president’s neck for the partisan political means of strengthening your party’s quest for power more important than the winning of the war? If your answer is yes, why should not every American consider your actions treason of the highest degree?”

"Instead they would tie the measure to political advances by the Iraqi government."

The only reasonable interpretation of this move is that this is the Democrats' latest attempt to telegraph to America's enemies exactly what those enemies must do in order to ensure America's defeat. The message is: sabotage all political efforts at reconciliation and nation building, and you will be rewarded with an American defeat. The effect of this measure would clearly be to make those 'political advances' impossible, and not to encourage them.

Before this, they were trying desperately to tell Iran, al Quaeda, various Sunni and Shiite insurgents, and their entire support infrastructure, "just hold on until this date, six months from now, and we will force the American troops to come home in defeat - then Iraq is yours to do with as you please".

The Democrats tried - how many times? three or four dozen times? - to get some flavor of that "defeat America" strategy to pass, but it always came up short. But, as we've seen in the past, the Commies are like the Energizer Bunny - they keep coming and coming and coming, and will do anything possible to sneak through their ugly agenda. They've repackaged it, camouflaged it, and poll-tested it to make it more palatable to the uninformed while keeping the pressure on to show solidarity with their revolutionary cadres, and underneath it all it's the same abomination with the same old anti-American goal...
