DPS was watching burglars shot by Horn 10:16 PM CST on Tuesday, December 4, 2007 By Rucks Russell / 11 News Even before their deaths prompted a series of heated debates about the use of deadly force, detectives at the Department of Public Safety had their eye on Diego Ortiz and Miguel Dejesus.

The two were shot and killed by Joe Horn, a Pasadena man who thought they were burglarizing his neighbor’s home last month.

According to a DPS memo obtained by 11 News, the department was investigating the use of Puerto Rican birth certificates by Colombians seeking to obtain Texas driver’s licenses.

Both Ortiz and Dejesus had applied for licenses. Dejesus listed his country of origin as Puerto Rico, but both men were Colombian.

Apparently, the DPS is investigating hundreds of immigrants who may have used illegal papers to get Texas licenses.

But that’s not all.

A much wider probe has been launched into an organized syndicate of Colombians who are engaged in illegal weapons sales and home break-ins – just like the one Ortiz and Dejesus were involved in last month in Pasadena.

That day, Joe Horn and a shotgun stood in the way of the suspected thieves, but in many instances the suspects have gotten away.

The ATF, ICE and DPS have reportedly formed a task force to bring the crime wave to an end.

The burglars are said to be very effective at what they do, conducting extensive surveillance on their targets before striking. Some of the suspects are extremely violent.

The investigations have already led to several arrests.

As the situation spirals out of control with Mexico, we are going to see more and more people compelled to become the law for lack of any real enforcement on the matter. We are seeing many people being to understand the implications of the United States abandoning it's Southern border and leaving US citizens to the "tender mercies" of third world banditos and drug lords.

The American people do understand: The United States and local governing entities have failed miserably to enforce the law and protect it's citizens. There is a vacuum here and citizens are required the take up the slack to protect their families, friends and neighbors. IF the law was regularly being enforced along with proper control of the borders, it wouldn't be necessary.

However, since all governing entities have basically abandoned even the slightest effort to enforce and protect, and the citizens are being faced with what amounts to an invasion, under those circumstances they have free reign on how they protect themselves from enemy invaders. In addition, any laws that restrict or define terms of such defense and protection are no longer applicable, as there is no controlling legal authority.

Police showing up to draw a chalk outline of a body isn't protection, law enforcement nor border control. Anyone who implies that it is is siding with the enemy.

As US identification papers go, Puerto Rico birth certificates have been a joke for 30 years—ever since I was employed by a police department. (Sheriff’s Office, really). :-(

So are all the people who called us racists and anti-hispanic on the last thread for suggesting these two were illegals going to stop by this thread to apologize?

This is the same incident that had the Quniell X guy protesting with his rent a mob isn’t it? That video was amazing. Of what interest are two illegal burglars to that race baiting prison muslim guy? I had assumed the burglars to be black when I saw the “protest” and its community response.

The news is reporting that football player Sean Taylor’s murder was a robbery gone bad. Regardless of the intent, Taylor is still dead. I hope that Mr. Horn’s attorney can draw the parallel here and protect him from a justice system that too often displays outrageous sympathies for the criminals. I think Mr. Horn was justified and I think that the cops need to realize that his house could have been next on the criminal’s shopping list.

Was the neighbor in the U. S. illegally or were the burglars in the U. S. illegally.

Check out their names.

Clue: Horn was a legal neighbor.

They were as armed as if they had a loaded gun.

Exactly. Most people think that if you don't have a gun, you're not armed. Idiots all. I saw on the History Channel that a lot of Hell's Angels carry ball peen hammers because they can be extremely damaging in a fight, but there's no place in America where you can't legally carry one.

I like what a friend of mine once said. "If you have a baseball bat in your car, you're carrying a weapon. If you have a baseball bat, a ball, and a glove, you play baseball."

Yes, I mean drunk driving. I live in a city where one illegal driving drunk rear ended a car and killed the girl riding in the back--with her seat belt on. They were stopped at a light and that was it. I am disgusted that a local "chic" Mexican grill employed him. I don't know if I can ever eat there even if the food is supposed to be great.

The statistic I heard was 4000 deaths annually from illegals. But people don't think in terms of statistics. However many they kill, illegals have caused more deaths of Americans than global warming, nuclear power accidents, and coal mining accidents combined. No one seems to care about the real price we are paying with these people residing here.

I’m glad that this didn’t happen in New York, Massachusetts or some other anti-gun state. The hero of this story, and he is a hero, would be sitting in prison for a long time as a scapegoat for failed liberal policies.

Quniell X, like Sharpton and Jackson, was following the 1st rule of all black race baiter:

Whenever & wherever there are cameras and white people to point a finger at, you have an interest.

. It’s been open season on law abiding citizens for decades

All too true, and this is aided and abetted by politicians and bureaucrats who insist on disarming the the citizens. Luckily this happened in Texas. Can you imagine what would have happened to Mr. Horn if this had happened in MD, NY, or MA? He'd be facing serious jail time. Jorje Bush, Hilary, Obama, Rootie, Romney and McCain are all deeply saddened that Mr. Horn killed these poor hard working undocumented workers who were just in the USA to make a living.

You’re right and it doesn’t appear anything is going to be done about it. You’re right as well about the statistics, every number has a name, a life and people that loved them. I use the stat to drive the point home, that it isn’t just the rare exception most think it to be. It may be 4000, the information is hard to come by for sure. The best info I could find was from a US Congressman and what he had written said 25 deaths per day, either from outright murder or drunk driving.

If they were illegals, then Mr. Horn is probably in even more trouble.
Can’t have folks goin’ around shootin’ foreign invaders. Might make ‘em mad.
‘Course, live or dead, they can still vote Democrat.

Sorry, forgot the link, in case you’re interested in the info. I think the 4380 number are those who are just outright murdered by illegals, not including negligent homicide from those driving under the influence. http://www.rense.com/general76/12am.htm

So one old man did more than ATF, ICE, and DPS?

Now that is pure American!

Well said, Bob. We, as citizens, ARE the last line of defense.

In order to achieve peace, we must be ready for war.

That is the value they put on their own lives. They risked their life for some used goods, sold cheap. Men that value living, so low, and that enter a Texas home, to steal, are very dangerous. This wasn’t a teenage mother stealing to eat and feed her kids. These were professional losers. Home invaders. We may well find that they have raped and murdered people that they discovered in those peoples homes. They made a trade, and lost.

BINGO. Well said. Exactly.

where to begin ???

Department of Public Safety had their eye on Diego Ortiz and Miguel Dejesus.

evidentely their 'lazy' eye

a Pasadena man who thought they were WITNESSED THE PERPS burglarizing his neighbor’s home

ATF, ICE and DPS have reportedly formed a task force to bring the crime wave to an end.

Looks like Mr Horn didnt need no stinkin task force, just a shotgun and a little initiative.

Now while these alphabet task forces are keep their eyes on these scumbags buddies, will they sit around and watch Mr horns house get burned down? Im positive that he has been removed of his shotgun [hopefully has back ups] but fortunately it seems he does have a few [hundred] motivated Texans defending alongside side at least for now...
