An elderly man was found near an escalator in the store, and police said a young black man was being sought as the suspected shooter. Early indications were that as many as five people may be injured.
Colby Barak told KETV NewsWatch 7 that she was on lockdown inside Westroads Mall. She said she was doing Christmas shopping at Younkers, and an announcement was made that no one would be allowed to leave.
Just before 2 p.m., Barrett said, another announcement was made that shoppers could leave but would not be allowed back in.
Dozens of police and sheriff's cars were arriving at the mall.
A description of the shooter, broadcast over scanners, was that he was in an Army-green vest and was holding a rifle.
Another Westroads shopper, Kathy, told KETV NewsWatch 7 that she heard three pops. She said a Bath and Body Works manager approached her and told her to get out of the mall hallway as there was a situation, and a shooter had not been located.
Well, I would interpret detained as holding for questioning.... ??
If they were all white males, will it be a hate crime? They were of all ages. Their families are now having a nightmarish afternoon.
Heck, that's a visit to starbucks.
Wonder what they'd call my loadout for a roadtrip?
You’d think there would be reports of alot more injuries if 35-40 shots were fired. But I heard an interview with a guy who was in the mall, he said he heard 35-40 shots.
Earlier, Shep said is a 2 or 3 storied mall. He was on an upper floor shooting downward (except for the guy shot in the head which was at point blank range).
Well, as I said... “Heavily armed” is nothing more than a catch phrase. That’s an undefined phrase really. As I was pointing out, IF I were walking through a mall with a 9mm on my hip, with 16 rounds in my weapon, I can hit 10 people if I were a crazed lunatic intent on killing people.
If I had a second mag and could reload... well, you get the picture.
I guess what I am saying here is is that the phrase isn’t really going to be a shining example of what the main stream media will say, because they will likely USE that exact phrase. I didn’t mean any offense to you, but I think the phrase is over-used, and incorrectly used.
A team-served weapon with a squad of guys running it, each with their on side arms and/or M4s is “heavily armed”.
Me walking around in the woods in the wilderness with a semiautomatic AR15, a 9mm strapped to my hip, and a bowie knife might make me “heavily armed” or not, depending on the circumstances... /shrug.
I bet not....in the PC era. You are so right, their poor families may just be learning, or don’t even know yet!
Let's hope it's not one of the Somalis who live in Omaha

1620 the zone radio in omaha says unconfirmed 14 shot 7 died per a source in the fire department.
Suspect now in custody.
I wondered the same thing but inside a mall I would think the the sound would echo all thru the mall giving the impression of more shots fired. It will all come out during the investigation.
"The Omaha Police Departments Bomb Squad removed what authorities describe as a grenade from a parking lot at Westroads Mall Friday night. "
That's definitely not off topic IMHO.
Here is the source of the angry Somali story

amazon.com has the best music samples. I don’t know what songs are appropriate at a time like this.
Prayers for the victims...
This isn’t a slam, but I’m guessing you don’t shoot much. 40 rounds is really nothing.
To put in perspective, the Virginia Tech gunman fired about 150 shots.
Thanks Kim.
I put it off topic at this time, because I don’t know if it’s connected to the suspect yet or not.
“All male. Hm.”
Not sure where this came from but there’s a store employee being quoted as seeing a woman shot.
