VIEW' HISTORY LESSON - JESUS CAME WAY FIRST New York Post - New York, N.Y. Author: MICHAEL STARR Date: Dec 5, 2007 Start Page: 087 Section: TV Wednesday Text Word Count: 296 Abstract (Document Summary)

THE new co-host of "The View," Sherri Shepherd, yesterday insisted Christianity was older than ancient Greece, and even Judaism. Shepherd - who said earlier this year that she didn't know if the world was flat or round - said during a short-lived discussion of Greek philosophy on yesterday's show that she was pretty sure nothing "predated Christians."

"They had Christians," Shepherd insisted. "And they threw 'em to the lions."

Another opportunity to make Christians look ignorant, biased and uneducated. (My first post hope it's OK)

Here’s the big question: If you know nothing about Christianity or have a weirdly distorted view of it are you still a Christian?

Another opportunity to make Christians look ignorant, biased and uneducated.

I don't think that was the reason - good golly, one should expect a bit more brain power in someone in a TV host situation...actually, in anyone over the age of 3

She has a weirdly distorted view of history, but I'm not sure I see evidence that she has a weirdly distorted view of Christian theology.

Note that Justin Martyr (second century AD) promoted the idea that Abraham and Socrates were "Christians before Christ". So this basic idea is not new. Still, I think Sherri said what she said just because she doesn't know history very well.

If she thinks that Christianity pre-dates Judaism, then that’s pretty distorted.

Well, in one sense, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was God and the Word was with God." So God is and was a Christian.

I don't, however, think that's the sense in which she intended to be understood.

No kidding. What part of “New” in the New Testament does she not understand?

I think it's safe to say that she is ignorant and that she expressed herself badly.

But I have no doubt that she was attempting to express the idea that Christ was present at the Creation and that nothing precedes Him. Of course, the words that came out her mouth actually expressed the belief that the Christian religion predates everything, and she should not have said it that way.

But people make too much of this. She's a talk-show host! I for one do not expect wisdom from that sort.

Certainly. It is a heart matter—sincerely asking Jesus for forgiveness and making Him Lord of your life. Only God knows your heart. We can even fool ourselves. As the Bible says, “the heart is desperately wicked, who can know it?” If you are truly one of His, He knows it. He doesn’t care how educated we are. He loves His children, warts and all. (Thank you, Lord!)

Flat earth or not. ;^)

Didn’t Shepherd also blame the British teacher for “not learning the customs” of Sudan for her near lynching over the “Teddy Mohammed” incident? She sounds pretty stupid.

If you know nothing about Christianity or have a weirdly distorted view of it are you still a Christian?

The question might be worded better as "If you know nothing about Christianity or have a weirdly distorted view of it is it possible to be a Christian?"

*still* implies that you were one once. If someone doesn't understand it, I doubt that's possible.

I sincrely doubt that she was trying to make a theological point.

From the article:

she was pretty sure nothing "predated Christians."

I stand by my statement that she seems to be expressing (very badly) the idea that Christ was present at the Creation and that nothing precedes Him. That's the sort of thing one can learn in Sunday School. To relay that simple message IS to make a theological point.

But you can disagree, obviously.

She is guilty of believing John 8.58:

Jesus said to them, "Amen, amen I say to you, before Abraham came to be, I am."

By using the word “Christians” she implies organized religion. She might have just as easily said “nothing predated Christ.”

I watched bill maher's old show a few times. One show had Dennis Praeger and whoopi goldberg. She said that she had lived under communism and it was a good thing for a lot of people.

She got jumped by Dennis and maher (whose only positive attribute is ant-communism). She said that she and friends had snuck into East Germany for a few days or weeks to do theater or some drivel.

That verbal flotsam is far more egregious than todays historical jumble.

While attempting to prove Christians are stupid the producers of “The View” instead prove that they only hire stupid people.

She is another stake in the heart of the reputation of the View and the stream of loudmouthed stupid women that are both on it and watch it. It is an embarrassment to ALL women and I hope that the feminazi’s understand what they have wrought.
