I have a pile of guns and have never once considered going hunting.

If I ever did, it would end with me standing in the forest holding a rifle looking at a dead deer with me thinking 'Okay, now what?'.

I have zero interest in hunting or shooting animals. I'd also look stupid dolled up in RealTree®.

Likewise -- I don't hunt these days because my friends who do hunt on my land are kind enough to drop a load of venison on my front step from time to time in appreciation of using the land.

I've gutted and butchered a couple of deer who either suicided off my back embankment or got hit by my car, and I know that feeling from the first time many years ago: "Now what?" That was an adventure.

Personally I like target practice; that's what I do most. I pray the time never comes when I have to use deadly force for personal or family protection, or against the encroachments of my own government. But I won't hesitate, if that time comes.

I could have written the first two lines in your post.

Up here, hunting season coincides with heating season. Uncle Sam made me stay out in the cold too often for me to want to do that.

Hunting in warmer climes is of some interest....

But right now what I really want to do is pimp my SKS...

Ditto that. I hunted when I was young (pre-teen and teen years). Got the urge out my system completely (though I certainly will NEVER criticize those folks who still hunt--different folks/different strokes).

I own guns for protection of self and property, and to target shoot.

I'll add my ditto to that one. Though it'd be nice if more people hunted deer around here since we have a serious deer overpopulation problem, I've never had a taste for it myself.

I think far more Americans understand that the 2nd Amendment has nothing to do with sporting goods than most politicians and media pundits realize. Not only conservatives, but moderates, independents, and even some liberals will respond favorably to a candidate who opposes the kind of gun control the Democrat candidates are selling. Heck, I have a very good friend who is a liberal Democrat, but who has a concealed carry license and strongly believes in the individual's right to be armed.

If anything, 2006 showed that this is one issue no one need run to the left on. After all, how many of the new Democrat Congressmen were elected on a pro-gun platform?
