Vice President Cheney warned in an interview Wednesday that a premature withdrawal from Iraq would invite further attacks against the United States and said he has been surprised by the weakness of the Democratic Congress.
Most striking were his virtually taunting remarks of two men he described as friends from his own days in the House: Democratic Reps. John Dingell (Mich.) and John P. Murtha (Pa.).
In a 40-minute interview with Politico, he scoffed at the idea of two men who spent years accruing power showing so much deference to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) in the big spending and energy debates of the year.
Murtha and the other senior leaders march to the tune of Nancy Pelosi to an extent I had not seen, frankly, with any previous speaker, Cheney said. Im trying to think how to say all of this in a gentlemanly fashion, but [in] the Congress I served in, that wouldnt have happened.
But his implication was clear: When asked if these men had lost their spines, he responded, They are not carrying the big sticks I would have expected.
Throughout the interview, Cheney was dismissive of virtually everything Democrats are trying to do in Congress that probably wouldnt surprise anybody on the war, spending and anti-terrorism policies.
Theyve produced absolutely nothing that I can see thats of benefit or consistent with the promises that they made when they went out and ran for election, Cheney said.
Pelosi, in a statement responding to the vice presidents remarks, dismissed his comments and called on the White House to spend its time finding compromise.

The Vice President is a very smart and clever man.
Well Nancy, our approacy to compromise, is to illustrate the absurdaty of your position and your politics, embolden your detractors, and anything else to weaken your stature as we drag you to the negotiation table.
Too bad that you don’t approve....
The VP’s comments are mild compared to what I imagine he would like to say about the Demonrat traitors. But am glad he said what he did. He will be slammed out the kazoo for it. Too bad for the Dimwits our Vice President continues to have “gravitas” and they continue to be traitors.
I'm gonna laugh about this all day!
“big sticks”?
He’s questioning their manhood. LMAO!!!
I just love it when Cheney bashes the rats, They go nut’s. From the press, down to the local dimwit having a drink watching CNN. He really know’s how to punch their buttons.
They are not carrying the big sticks I would have expected.
Murtha’s gonna scream and Cheney will keep on whacking him.
“big sticks” is almost better than when he told Leahy to go f himself. =)
Gotta love Cheney.
When do you think that fat Murtha has seen his?
That phrase is getting real old.
So is she...
Did you read any of the comments after the piece? They started immediately ....
"He said he agreed that was the right call. So he thought it might leak? Everything leaks, he said with a chuckle. "
Cheney just reminded me why I voted for him
How do you bump something back to the top? This is great!
I can see Fred Thompson saying this with the same impact. A Cheney endorsement of Fred is my Christmas wish.
“Richard” Cheney said Dems lacked big what?
No I didn’t see their comments....but really, we didn’t have to see them did we? We know their script, their vileness, and their bitter sorelosermen attitude since this President and Vice President took office.
NOthing would surprise me as to what they would say, esp over at the DUmmmie place.
For now just focusing on our Vice President and his understated put down of some of the dimwit big guns.
