Terrorism: Al-Qaeda urged to attack Knights of Malta in Cairo
AKI ^ | 2007 Dec 6

Rome, 6 Dec. (AKI) - A message posted on Islamist websites close to al-Qaeda is urging jihadists to carry out a terrorist attack on the embassy of the Roman Catholic Order of Malta in the Egyptian capital, Cairo.

"Do not stint on your attacks, Egyptians, either with car or truck bombs," reads the message posted on Thursday. It is accompanied by photos of the embassy building (photo) and entrance.

"These are photos of the Order of Malta embassy in Cairo. I ask Allah to have it closed down or blown up, along with those inside it, who hate Islam and Muslims," the Internet message continued.

The message urging the jihadi attack on the Order of Malta - nowadays a charitable organisation - follows the publication of an editorial in the United Arab Emirates daily al-Bayan, by Jordanian MP Jamal Muhammad Abidat entitled 'The Knights of Malta - more than a conspiracy'.

“Well, in a sense ... the keyboard kommandos say the same kinds of things that the salamikazes do — and they’re just as unable to see the irony in their blatherings.”

hmmmm...... How ironic, considering.

Little warrior syndrome, pick a fight you think can’t lose.

Didn’t they already prove who the better fighters are?

Just that in comparing FReepers/”keyboard commando’s” as you call them, with real Muslim terrorists, you also likely don’t realize that by doing so, you minimize the real danger they represent, and you give tacit support to ‘actual terrorists’ by comparing them to simple loud mouths with a keyboard. I just thought that that was ironic, considering your post.

Just the words, FRiend. I said it looks like it could have been typed by one of our own.

Ah, but I think that the keyboard kommandos are a problem, too -- and a more insidious one. They're advocating the use of barbarity in classic "end justifies the means" style. Their recommendations are pernicious to the health of a civilized society.

They need to be held to account for their language, lest their language become the basis for later action.

As much or more than actual terrorists. I see. Indeed we all see.

AQ has certainly stepped up their efforts in Africa in just the last few months. They first took over GSPC in Algeria renaming it al-Qaeda in the Maghreb. Then the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group was reported to be joining AQ. Just last week an official with the Somali government announced that AQ had re-established a presence in that country.

It looks like the US militarys new AFRICOM may get busy soon.

Anyone familiar with the Knights of Malta, knows that the Muslims did not make out very well the last time they tried to conquer them on the island of Malta.

My parish priest is from Malta. He was just telling us about the KOM and the battle fought in 1565 during scripture study on Tuesday.

Well, kind of.

The Knights Hospitlier tried to stay fairly neutral in the various spats over Roman authority — anyway they had lots of Scottish knights and they went with the Scottish king (Bruce? Robert? Robert the Bruce?) who ended up being excommuicated.

Anyway, the KOM divided like most of Christendom, and there have been resulting divisive claims to “who is the correct heir to the order” since then -— nominally protestant claiming one thing and Roman Catholics saying the other.

I have no idea or now care who is correct.

I do note that the Protestant group tries to rise above this and promises to protect ALL Christiandom (and, in particular, Christian pilgrims), REGARDLESS of denomiation.

There are larger numbers of KOM in our military, including a recognized encampment within an Army Division that is in Iraq.

Sorry, I can’t even read what I wrote, I left out a huge part of my text . . . was talking on the phone and a cell phone and freeping . . .

If you look, there are protestant groups (such as the York Rite Knights Hospitlier/KOM) that trace their origin back to the KOM . . .

All KOM take an oath to “defend Christiandom above all” et al. I took this oath.

The Roman Catholic group take an oath to “defend the Roman Catholic Church above all” My (biological) brother took this oath.

That always bothered me, as I REALLY don’t like denominational desputes, and consider all Christians to be my brother (Roman Catholic, Protestant of any type, Orthodox, you name it).
