I heard an interesting Freudian slip about this on TV this morning.
The news guy referred to it as the “OBAMA mall shooting.”
He didn’t notice his mistake...
you’ll have alot of people here that will agree with you.
including me.
Well...they DO shoot the same round...so...
Yep. Wish the general public knew the definition of an assault rifle. Way too much confusion out there.
Assault Rifle — Characterized by the following: intermediate cartridge and select fire (i.e. a switch to select semi-auto or full-auto or burst mode).
Frankly, I don’t care if he used a machine gun. I’m tired of having my God-given rights called into question whenever some nutcase kills people.
I may send a letter to the local mall management asking them if I have the correct address to send a $10 to $20 million lawsuit if I should come in their mall unarmed at their direction and subsequently be shot.
There have been three major shooting incidents this year in “gun free zones.” It looks like the idiots running such zones would figure out that these are magnets for mass shootings, since the lunatics know they won’t be running into any opposition until the police arrive — when they’re already dead by their own hand.
Yeah, I understand what you're saying.
May you never have to.
You’re right. Still doesn’t make it an assault rifle (I know you know that).
i think alot of people shoot much larger guns than necessary. :)
Yeah, but it does stain the drawers to be near the person that is now shooting the ceiling timbers of the firing range!
I am very much a supporter of the 2nd Amendment, but the weapon the kid was carrying is exactly the weapon banned by the assault weapon law.The SKS was not covered by the Clinton-era ban. AK-47 derivatives were, but the SKS preceded the AK-47, and did not meet the specifications of the ban. And, as others have pointed out, it was never "full-auto" capable. If it had been somehow modified to fire three-round bursts, he would have had to reload five times, which seems unlikely. I suspect the witnesses were in error.
FOX News now stating and showing on their “ALERT” that he used an AK-47, not an SKS.
“AK-47 derivatives were...”
Not all AK-47 derivatives were covered. There were plenty of post-1994 AK derivatives (WASR and SAR being very popular) available that met the 1994 AWB rules. They weren’t allowed to have flash hiders or bayonet lugs, but otherwise were semi-auto AK clones. My wife bought me one in 2002 for Christmas.
All we have here is a young, disturbed person who was very, very angry. Nothing more.
“I would have called the police, that night, and reported that he was dangerous.”
And they would have said, “We can’t do anything. No law has been broken”.
The thing is about all of this talk about what the guy used...
I don’t care WHAT the guy used. He could have been using a model 1894 Winchester and still killed just as many people. He could have been using a Ruger 10/22 rimfire. A baseball bat. A golf club. Frozen turkeys. Whatever!
It’s a cold heart that kills.
What if he had instead chosen to drive a Toyota Prius through a crowd of people? Would the media be scrambling to push to outlaw their precious Earth-saving moonie-mobile?
FYI. All mental health workers are required to report (to police)any person whom they believe is a danger to themselves or another. In the case of another, to let them know also.
The shooter was 18-19 and said to be ADHD. That I believe. It is highly unlikely he was taking any ADHD meds or receiving any counselling at the time of his shooting spree.
Well, imho, he WAS a worthless piece of shit. He had chosen that road, and there he was, on it. So, at least he was on to the truth. And the woman who ‘rescued’ him after his parents kicked him out was probably a liberal. Honestly, she thought she could help him but ignored the parents’ input and all the reality happening in her own house. They had lived with him for years. Disgusting.
Has this actually happened, or are you just sending yourself into a tizzy over imagined insults? Take a deep breath and go for a nice walk or something.
