I always figured that pork was taken off the “fine foods” list because if it was not cooked correctly, it could kill you. Trichinosis, you know.

Of course, cured and prepared hams eliminate that problem now.

Any other reasons to eliminate pork from the religious diet?

I’ve seen the theory that when the laws were put in the place, the Jews were nomads, living in the desert, and could not, as a community, afford the amount of water it would take to raise pigs.
